Lakes
I’m in the Lake District. Tonight I played Penrith Leisure Centre. You can imagine what a leisure centre is like as a comedy venue: echoey and difficult and you may as well be emo band Funeral For A Friend grinding your way through some industrial rock. Luckily, the audience obliged with a lot of supportiveness. Tomorrow I go to Millom, which has been the venue about which people have most consistently asked either ‘where is that?’ or (if they know where it is) ‘are you sure you should go to Millom?’ If you know anything about Millom, or even know someone who has been there, or (far-fetched) have been there yourself or ARE THERE NOW, any information would be welcome. I’ve got it down as a frighteningly remote destination but maybe I’m being pessimistic: and, hey, last week I did a gig where the audience all arrived by torchlight because there were no street lights, and another one where they sold cakes in the interval as there was no bar. So it can’t be more remote than those, surely?
In other news I’ve unfortunately had some chest pains lately, and I’m probably going to have to postpone a couple of shows because I’ve been advised by doctors to not die. More details soon. If this does happen, I’ll reschedule the gigs for some time next year when I’m not ruefully rubbing my chest and wondering how things got this stressful.

That sounds like good advice from the doctor, I would very much like you to stay alive. Have you considered postponing everything and going into hibernation? Don’t worry about temporarily disappointing people, they will get over it and it is much important to be healthy. So, yeah, take care of yourself. x

If you could go with the not dying option, that would be most appreciated by all, I think.
I’m giving up work due to long-term ill health & there are times when I feel bad about letting people down (cos the world really needs more heartless lawyers!) But, you shouldn’t have to jeopardise your sanity or well-being just to do your job – very few jobs are worth that much of a commitment.
Hopefully it’ll only take a couple of days of tea, toast, Diagnosis Murder & seeing your kid’s gummy smile to help you recuperate.
Take care. x

Don’t die. My mum gets things like that, and it’s probably a stupid suggestion, but she sometimes finds stretching her arms out helps ease it. Feel better x

Great news to share eh, Jen? I see you got rather overexcited or is that a twitch on your Enter key or perhaps a stutter developing??? LOL! Such good news is worth celebrating a second time anyway … ;D
Best of luck tomorrow, Katy … take a few really deep breaths, one at a time, exhaling veeeeeeery slowly and gently between each one … nobody else will notice you doing it …. and it will only take one or two to really calm you down and relieve the tension in your body … Try it now and you’ll see what I mean …
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and hope all goes well …. S xx

I came here to actually ask about dealing with stress as I have a scary hospital appointment tomorrow (having a needle in my eye) but clearly you are the one that needs some tips! I do hope you’re ok.
I may have a solution though: we could get my friend who looks like you to do your promo stuff and give you some much needed time off.

No cakes in the interval at Millom but make sure you have a pound in your pocket for the raffle! Cya later

Welcome back, Jen … and good job done by all finger crossers!!!

I’ve been to Millom! I spent an unfortunate week there with my absent father and his girlfriend (and some of his friends who he didn’t mention were coming) in a caravan devoid of food, next to a foul smelling bay covered in goose poo. They buggered off on some of the days (my dad and friends, not the geese), leaving my sister and I (I was about 12) with nothing to eat so we had to spend our holiday money on chips. However, locals (almost all of whom had bucked teeth and/or braces) threw stones at us so we had to run to the sanctuary of the smelly caravan. And the water tasted of crap too.
Hopefully things have improved in the dental and scent departments since then. The positives were that there were canoes and calm water, which was fun. Did I day positives? I meant positive. Singular.
Anyway, much more importantly, go to the doctors now please. Or better still, get yourself hooked up to some lovely IV antibiotics in hospital and get all your meals served to you for free courtesy of the taxpayer. That’s what I did last time my lungs broke and I had a thoroughly nice time. People bring you gifts and flowers (which are turned away because you’re in a respiratory ward) and you can catch up on some reading and watch daytime TV and nice ladies and gentlemen take your temperature and are pleased when you cough up phlegm instead of being appalled, which most people are. You can even use your mobile phone and go on-line nowadays so the blog need not suffer! Seriously though, if your chest hurts, stop what you’re doing and fix it.
Sending lots of the best of wishes,
Amy. xxx

Oh no I’m away from the blog a couple of days (grrrr stupid on/off internet signal!) and you’re ill…rest and get well soon!!!Jx ps Suzanne I’m here ready as always with crossed fingers!

Look after yourself. If you have to cancel a couple of things in order to take some time out, relax and get better, then fine. Better that than carrying on regardless, then getting more ill and having to cancel more and more stuff.
Seriously, as much as we love you and love all that you do, I’m sure the collective here would much rather you took some time out and looked after yourself for once.

Oh dear. I would really very much like it if you didn’t die. I feel that is the more sensible option of the two!

Oh, darlin’, health before wealth, always. I’m sure fans will understand delays. Take care!

We have a job to do tomorrow … or actually, as it’s now well past midnight, it’s TODAY, ie Sunday … yes, it’s finger crossing time again!!!

I can only reiterate all the get well wishes that have gone before and the suggestions urging you to take it easy … OK, knowing you, I won’t go for the impossible … so I’ll settle for ‘take it easier’ … PLEASE!
A ‘please’ in upper case indicates a direct and extremely emphatic order … RIGHT??? Right … phew, you should have at least heard that even if you choose to ignore it …
I know that Mr Sod insists on making life difficult by creating the no buses/loads of buses Law … and similar. I feel he must have pounced when he saw a slight, very slight, gap in your work schedule to cram in umpteen additional commitments all to be carried out within one hundredth of nanosecond of time!!!
And you, being the saint/fool that you are, smiled ruefully, scratched your head and said, “Er, no problem, of course I can do that … and that … and that … and that … and that …!!!”
All joking aside … please take it easy and look after YOU … x

I think it is probably best for all concerned that gigs are postponed. Basically because it would suck more if you were ill. Postpone away and see your wife and rapidly growing child and get better. Have a rest please.
Also I’ve got some tickets for the 7th December through the official channels but should be able to do the one before that too. I’ve been poor and tired recently but hopefully will buck up a bit soon. And persuade someone to come with me. My dad is always a safe bet.
Keep being marvelous and bringing joy but in a healthy and non detrimental to yourself manner ^_^

I mean this in a nice way, but working yourself into an early grave is just plain stupid. Which you’re not, I suspect. Well I actually know that you’re not, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to do all the amazing stuff you do. And I kind of want you to carry on doing amazing stuff for a long time to come. So be told by the people on this forum, we know better than you do on this subject (obviously) x

I can only agree with others when they say don’t die…..that wouldn’t be good at all. Look after yourself, nothing is worth comprimising your health for……even if you have got a DVD to promote
Posted by Nia on November 20, 2011
You can’t die yet, a lot of people would be very sad. Take it easy man! I am the same age as you and as my mother keeps gleefully reminding me “You’re no spring chicken, you can’t rush about like you used to in your 20′s” (aren’t mothers lovely? but so often right). Have a well deserved rest, and in return I will try really hard to come to one of your radio shows x

Sounds like you need a holiday!
Posted by h2osarah on November 20, 2011
Please take it easy. Nobody wants you to compromise your health (or sanity) by overworking yourself. *hugs* Better to take a break and get back to things once you’re feeling good again. It’s what sick leave was invented for.

We are very faithful appreciative Watsonians, but we’re definitely not worth dying for!!!!!!!!!
Normal people would cancel work, go home and relax…………Please be a normal person for a little while at least x

I saw some of the feedback from tonight’s show on Twitter – you made a lot of people very, very, happy.
Pretty much all I can find out about Millom is that it has a couple of bird watching reserves and a lighthouse. It doesn’t look as good as the one back in Plymouth, but who am I to judge?
As for the last paragraph? Look after yourself. I’m sure you don’t need anybody else to tell you that, but seriously take it easy. You work too hard and we really appreciate the lengths you’re willing to go for us. We’d just prefer it if you didn’t get unwell.
xx
