Never mind the strangeness of being with people like Sinitta (Buzzcocks)
We’ll get onto Gervais soon.
I just recorded Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
It’s quite an odd experience these days, post-Amstell. He used to chat to the pop guests so much it felt like Parkinson. Nowadays they don’t get much attention at all. And the rounds whizz by with markedly less banter because whoever’s hosting tends to try and
follow producers’ instructions, which generally run along the lines of ‘stop those people talking about anal sex’ or whatever the riff du jour is.
Strangely, after 25 series, Buzzcocks is starting to resemble a pop quiz again.
Still – I was never much good at banter so it suits me
quite well to sit there and finish off the odd song lyric. I wore a suit, if you like that kind of thing. The show was hosted by Will Young, who is charming. And it mostly centres around Paul Foot. Who is very funny. You can watch it on Halloween night, if you’re not too busy dressing as a cat or Satan.

Can anyone else not read today’s blog? It’s showing up in the archive, but when I click it, it says error 404 :/

As mentioned earlier in the week, Derek McInnes has been appointed as the new manager of Bristol City …
The only way is up!!!

In an unrelated (or semi-related at best) issue, is Back of the Net dormant for good?

I find Buzzcocks pretty much unwatchable now. Their choice of guest hosts is often terrible – they don’t seem to have figured out that it needs someone quick and witty in the middle to make the programme work. I gave it a go with Lorraine Kelly this week, and it was painful. Simon Amstell would have got so much mileage out of the appalling Stacey Solomon, but Kelly just sat back and let her blether her brainless drivel without comment.
I’ll watch the one you’re on because I suspect Will Young is bright enough to pull it off, and in spite of Paul Foot, who I just don’t get. I know he does it for some people, and I’ve had it the other way round with people telling me that Harry Hill “just is not funny”, but I don’t think he’s ever made me laugh.

Oooh I do love Will Young.

I never really got into Never Mind The Buzzcocks. I will give it another go though, since you’re on it.

Is it OK to watch the programme even if I am dressed as a cat or Satan.
Or Dolly Parton?
Or Michael |Gove?
Pls reply quickly to alleviate my anxiety.

You, Noel Fielding, and Paul Foot in one episode? Fabulous!

I try to completely ignore halloween so this year I’ll do that by watching you on Buzzcocks! I do like that show. Especially the now semi-famous Preston episode

Will Young seems like a really nice guy and everything, but when we saw him at Glastonbury 08, he only sang two of his big singles (Leave Right Now and The Game), the rest were “new songs from the album”. He didn’t even sing Evergreen, which I got the impression was the song that most of the audience were there for, a lot of people were certainly calling for him to sing it! I’m sure he’s fantastic if you know his stuff at one of his proper gigs, but isn’t playing your greatest hits what playing at a festival is all about…?
Should be a good host of Buzzcocks though, doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously, which I think is a key factor for that show!

Ah, Jen … you slipped in your question as I was confessing …
You can now see the result and it was ALL my fault and I apologise profusely for having messed up … sadly scuppering all your efforts today!!! Will you ever forgive me???
Ironically my ‘first’ team won by a single goal, playing badly … who said life and football are fair??? No one, that’s who!!!
Watched Buzzcocks last night … it was totally manic!!! Loved Noel’s comment that he was usually the craziest one on his team, but not tonight!!!

Satans cat?

Well you’ve answered both my queries from last night … and I look forward to jumping off my broomstick long enough to watch you in a couple of weeks time …!!!
Sorry to report that Bristol City lost to a late penalty having played well throughout … the wheel of fortune MUST turn in the Robins favour soon …
I feel that this result is entirely my fault because I said KO was 7.45pm when it was actually 8pm! I expect finger crossers anonymous went in to action 15 mins too early and, more to the point, uncrossed before the full time whistle was blown!!! Apologies all round
Sackcloth and ashes will be worn until further notice …
Next game is home to Birmingham City on Saturday … KO is definitely 3pm BST.

ooh Will Young, I’m seeing him in Oxford on the 2nd November, you’re right he is charming, also from Henley on Thames, just down the road from me, once shared drinks with him in a pub and watched him down a pint of Brakspears in one go, urgh! Did you manage to chat to him, he’s very passionate about cars and is a very good driver by all accounts, maybe he could persuade you to do the driving thing … hmmmm …
I think your banter is excellent, be told for goodness sake! And Mark in a suit is even more excellent, I love Mark in a suit, in fact I love Mark full stop so I guess I’m biased
x

Oooo Halloween! The highlight of my husbands year… He enjoys scaring any ‘halloweeners’ half to death, no matter what age, should they dare knock on our door!! I’ll watch him do that, then watch you on the telly! Will Young seems like a very charming fella x

Will Young is a babe! I can’t wait for Halloween….not sure about the cat or satan choice though
Posted by Patrick on October 18, 2011
A cat OR Satan? Are those my only choices?
Posted by MusicalLottie on October 18, 2011
Interesting, I’ll look out for it – I didn’t really think much of it when Simon Amstell was hosting, but it’ll be interesting to see how much it’s changed. I did watch it when Gareth Malone was on but the presenter was quite crude which didn’t help my existing perception of the show!
Incidentally you’re on HIGNFY on Dave at the moment. I do enjoy HIGNFY, and they seem to let a decent amount of you in the final cut
