Runcorn and Aberdare

Thanks for registering your still-there-ness
yesterday. It wasn’t meant as a cry for help, I
was genuinely concerned the blogs had been getting dull. Anyway: onwards and up, as they say, wards. This week my exacting tour schedule eases off slightly, though I’m still going
to Runcorn and Aberdare, two places you probably aren’t going this week. Also, I am in Never Mind The Buzzcocks. So it won’t be an idle week. When not doing shows I will
be writing the Radio 4 series, which commences in just two weeks. When not doing that, I’ll be working on other things or having a
sandwich.

I’m at the Runcorn show right now. I hope Mark blogs about. Hilarious first half that definitely wasn’t scripted!

Haha Cathy C, I love your comment on all the Catherine/Cathy’s/Kathryn’s … There’s also a Katy!! How exciting… I’ve never felt so special!! x

Just as long as you don’t forget the sandwiches, you really can’t afford to stop eating or you might just disappear.

    Hands off all you Cathys/Catherines/Kathryns!!!

You can’t take over this blog without Mark’s express permission …

Now, if any of you spelt your name ‘Katherine’ and got married in April to an Air Sea Rescue helicopter pilot, I might have to apologise and submit to your request!!! :)

I have just noticed that out of the 11 comments on this blog (12 now), 5 have come from a Cathy/Catherine/Kathryn. May I suggest we group together and take over? ;-)

    What type of sandwich, exactly…?

    Here, Sir …

I’m never worried about shorter blogs … whatever you write, short or long has to be fitted in around ALL your other multi-numerous activities! How you cope with it all, I’ll never know but keep up the good work!

What does worry me is that your commitment to the daily blog could become a burden … Please don’t let this happen … I’m guessing that all fellow Watsonians thoroughly enjoy your blogs with their brilliant titles but would completely understand if you ever needed a break …

Is it tonight’s N M Buzzcocks??? Anyone know???

    I love a good sandwich.

Andrew, I’ve been thinking about that too. I like Ricky Gervais a lot, and think in general his attitude toward disability in his work is really good. I don’t agree with what he says during Science though. Whether being applied to someone with a disability or not, the word mong is still abusive. It is a method of belittling someone for something that they can’t help, and that isn’t okay to me under any circumstances. Plus he was using the word in reference to Susan Boyle, I think? I might be wrong about that, I can’t quite remember. Aside from that being pretty weak material, Susan Boyle actually has learning difficulties so I don’t quite see his “new meaning”.

I apologise if my failure to comment recently has contributed to the mild malaise. I try to comment only when I feel I have something to add, because I feel like commenting when I don’t would devalue the times when I do (rather like I only tell my wife that I love her when she does something that reminds me, because to tell her every day would render it meaningless. This is not my way of telling you I love you.)

If you want more comments, just toss into the mix something upon which people get opinionated. For example, I watched Ricky Gervais’ Science last night. Leaving aside opinions of the quality of the material in general, I’d be interested to know your take on his use of the word “mong” (and his defence of it). Or how about this one – Never Mind The Buzzcocks: not a patch on the Simon Amstell years, discuss. (The guest host thing works occasionally, but for every Mark Watson or Rhod Gilbert who enhance the programme there’s a Mark Ronson or James Bloody Corden who don’t.)

I know you are exceptionally busy (and a little run down) but any chance of having a Can I Help You blog when you’re less busy? I have a few things to run past you and the readers?

The day after Durham my friend sent me a lovely text saying how much she’d enjoyed it and how glad she was we’d been friends for so long. Very touching, though clearly I did not touch her during the scarlet fever phase.

    End of rambling.

I’d quite like to go to Runcorn and Aberdare. It’d be quite nice to see these places even if I have absolutely no idea where they are.

I am still here. I read almost everyday. If not, I catch up. Been busy with school. I admit to not keeping up with TYSIC, but I am working on my biggest goal. I am in Mexico trying to learn Spanish. It’s harder than I thought. Can’t wait to see you on NMTB. A lovely guy on YouTube makes sure I get my NMTB, MTW, QI and WILTY fixes.

You’re right, I’m not visiting either of the places you mention but I am travelling from Durham to Windsor (by car) at the end if the week… It’s time to experience Legoland (with the kids) and I will be taking sandwiches for the journey!!
Loving the blog.. This is the first one I’ve ever bothered commenting on, or following and love it! Still buzzing from the Durham gig… Have a good week and enjoy the sarnies!

Hello lovely, you are so busy, look forward to seeing you on Buzzcocks again …

I’m back from Dublin and a lovely weekend with my grey haired but very sexy husband and a ginger haired and not quite as sexy Australian. If you tell either of them I said that I will have to kill you (death threats online, hmmmm, probably not good)

Speaking of how busy you are (which I was a minute ago), I was wondering if you have any advice about how to be in two places at the same time? Have you ever managed that? I would imagine you have done it at least twice. I have a problem which involves an evening event which will promote my shop in Oxford on 17th November and a visit to Regent Street in London to see my second favourite man on the planet do his own promotion of his DVD on the same night. (I should have put more commas in that sentence, sorry if you’re out of breath)

I have a feeling the shop promotion will win unless I can persuade one of my staff to pretend to be me. Deception isn’t good is it? Always comes back to bite one on the arse I find.

Ok I’ll leave you to ponder that one. Or not (probably not, very wise) x

Sandwiches are good. Since arriving at University, I’ve become an ill advised fan of potato waffle sandwiches. Packed with carbohydrates, but delicious.

Your week sounds like fun. I think I’d happily swap it for mine.
