Lucky find

As you might have gathered from the Comments on yesterday’s blog, there is an advert at the moment on the popular free ad site Gumtree which says FOUND: MARK WATSON DRIVING LICENCE AND CREDIT CARD. Now, I don’t have a driving licence because I haven’t learned to drive, and I don’t have a credit card because I
prefer paying for things with actual money, so it’s surprising that
someone has been able to find these two items.

I would urge you to be very careful about answering any emails you get which are even vaguely suspicious. It’s creepy to see an
attempted scam in action (unless they do believe they’re helping, in which case thanks and sorry). Be vigilant. Remember whether or not you can drive. That’s my advice for today.

One of my managers at work is called Mark Watson. I don’t know him well enough to ask if he knows you, but at least now you can say you have heard of him :-)

I love that you don’t have a driver’s license, because it makes me feel less bad about not having one myself. I do have a credit card, though; it was unavoidable when I moved to Korea, since it was a month before I was allowed to get a Korean bank account and actually get paid for the work I was doing, and I didn’t feel comfortable carrying a month’s worth of money on me when I arrived.

Also, happy birthday Rachael (and Daniel)! Goats?

Surely if it’s a driving liscence any claimee will have to match to the picture? I just don’t see how that could be a scam though.

Interesting that you’ve managed to avoid driving, I have a driving license (full, no points) and even had a car for a while, not that came in handy a couple of times, but i’ve since sold it as I can get by on public transport, just, and because I plan to move to London in January where I wouldn’t wish to drive.

It is my birthday today (and fellow Watsonian Daniel’s, I believe) so, if anyone wants to get me those goats…

I actually don’t find it odd that you don’t drive…I grew up in the suburbs but made do without a car and license till I was 22 all thanks to public transport :)

I also know loads of people (in SF and NY) that don’t even own cars…they either bike, walk, take the subway/BART or cab it.

It did occur that were it yours, they’d have known from the picture and been able to find a better way to let you know… but thought it was worth mentioning just in case!

I’m not cynical enough, I hadn’t even thought it could have been a scam! I am intrigued by the fact you can’t drive though… you are coming to my hometown in November (bought my tickets the day they went on sale!) and public transport around here is absolutely dire, so I hope you have a chauffeur to bring you!

Credit cards are the devils work along with store cards – Father Ted style ‘down with that kind of thing!’ – nice caring blog tho – I like!Jx

They should have sent the card to the bank and the driving license to the DVLA if they were responsible.

I managed to say no to the bank trying to make me have a credit card, but then I discovered you can get cashback. Money, for nothing.

I see a Dave Gorman situation approaching head on, and am wondering if said “Mark Watson” (Mark 2.0?) is cashing in on you being his namesake and using it to his benefit.
