Storm/charity
Again, I might be able to blog again when I wake up, but there’s no guarantee when that will be and the time difference is a curious customer. So just in case: this is from Cathy. It is an Appeal For Sponsorship. I don’t pass on everything like this, because I get asked to do a lot and the blog would just be a charity newsletter (nothing wrong with that, of course, and maybe more worthwhile than a lot of what I come up with, but there we go. Who said that?)
Anyway – Cathy is a very familiar name amid the people who post on here, so I thought this was a deserving case, especially as she helped my sisters with their Moldova Project. You scratch me, etc. It’s how we won the war.
Also, Cystic Fibrosis is a ghastly condition; I know someone who has it, and it’s appalling. I donated money from my Edinburgh shows last year to this man, who ran a football tournament to raise funds for CF research, and I will again when I get it.
As with previous appeals of this kind I’m well aware most people reading don’t have any spare money, but even then there’s always the chance of a nice message or two, which I am sure would go very far from amiss. Plus putting this here will ‘raise awareness’ and then if Bill Gates is reading – and I assume he gets around most websites every day – then he might stump up.
That’s me. The appeal is below. I’m coming home tomorrow. There was an electrical storm here tonight. Not my bag at all, electrical storms. Nasty business.
Do any of you fancy sponsoring me? This Saturday coming, I am flying out to China (yes, China! eeek!! never been there) to walk along the Great Wall for nine days. Mad? Yes I think I may be!!
Anyway, forgive the intrusion but I am only abut £400 off my target now and it’s to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis and is in memory of my husband’s two brothers who died from CF.
If you can donate, the link is http://www.justgiving.com/cathypenrose
Failing that, blister plasters and muscle rub lotion gratefully received …

Maybe Bill Gates will stumble upon this next time he googles his name…
Good luck Cathy, I think it is a very admirable thing you are doing, if I had any money I would donate it.

GOOD LUCK, CATHY!!! (the capitals were for emphasis, rather than shouting, though i am in cornwall, so they may need to travel further). Amazing feat for an absolutely worthwhile cause.
Wishing you all the best. is it ok to sponsor after you’ve gone, or do you need it immediately? (i’m rather badly overdrawn this month already, but will be lush again on payday)

Good luck Cathy, what you’re doing is amazing. And slightly scary. I have never done any really long walking, but when I did D of E (which I never actually finished. I’m such a failure) I really regretted not having taken my pillow with me when it got to the sleeping part. So yes, my advice is that you want a pillow, lol.
I will see what I can do money-wise.

I spend quite a lot of my time beating up CF patients. It properly sucks. The more research into it the better. Good stuff!

Entirely unrelated to this blog, but I just wanted to say that I just moved into Uni and it’s bloody ace.
I think that might be it.

Wow that has come round fast Cathy. BAck from my D of E days deep heat, chocolate, proper blister plasters and that spray which acts as a second skin are great. Good luck and put your best foot forward etc…

Thanks Mark for your kind comments, I don’t really believe in “you scratch my back”, etc. I’m more of a “I’m doing this because I want to, not because I want anything in return”. Quite important I think as there’s nothing worse than feeling like you have to do something for someone who did something for you, for fear of upsetting them. Unless you want to, of course. Confusing …
But I do want to say thanks to those people who have already donated money since I invaded your blog, it was very rude of me I know but now I’m glad I did.
Misha … I do have some tiger balm and it stinks to bloody high heaven!! I’m going on my own on this trek and was hoping to make a few friends when I got there, so maybe I’ll try something less smelly instead!

I thought the storm was lovely! And the day in general, in fact. A balmy 29 degrees! I spent the evening at Comedy at Spleen on Bourke St, which is a great comedy night on every Monday. Was an awesome line up – you should have come along! Hope you enjoyed your stay in Melb, see you in March! x

Alas I am but a penniless dole monkey (again) but I can reccomend tiger balm for your legs. Worked wonders on my variety of pulled muscles in Edinburgh.
