Small scale literary shenanigans

We launched the book. I’m really grateful to the hardcore people who attended what was quite a low-key event. I didn’t plan it low-key, but I seem to just be that sort of person. Thankfully enough people made it and the bookshop were happy. That is all I have to report. Next time I blog, I hope to have done something more impressive. Again: really, thanks if you came.

I was there in spirit. Or I would have been if I hadn’t forgotten.

Come to Oswestry (you **did** say last night that you knew where it was after all) We have Booka Bookshop who are great with organising and authors and book signings. Phil Jupitous came not long ago and went down a storm… we moved to The Ironworks (nearby venue) to fit lots more people in…if you come then we will buy ;o)

So annoyed that someone went home sick from work because “they were tired”. Thus not allowing me to leave early to come :( I have booked July 28th off work, so no lightweights will prevent me.

The degree of sickness to warrant time off work is such a gray area. I will work unless I’m restricted to the bathroom, or cannot get out of bed for feeling so ill. The amount of friends I have who call in sick and then go to the cinema etc in the evening, I could never do this. I felt so guilty when I called in sick and had no-one to go to the chemist for me, so I had to go myself, and of cause I was spotted by a colleague. I suppose if you are self employed or have 100’s of audience members like Mark has you are under pressure to work no matter how ill you feel.

I was cover in mud and stunk to high heaven. But I wanted to come so so much. I’m sorry. I’m half sure they wouldn’t have let me in as my boots were so muddy. This is based on the fact that I was made to put plastic booties over them before they let me on the train…

If I wasn’t out of the country for the other London dates I’d be there instead. If my parents get the hint about what I want for my birthday then I’ll see you in Epsom!
    ^_^

I had a fantastic time Mark, thanks! You also made my week by actually knowing my name without me telling you.

I’m really glad I went, it was funny and interesting.
Thank you for signing my book (I was the awkward individual with Tom Basden’s CD).
I saw the stage invasion at Exeter too, which was another great night :)

i’m trying to work out whether to properly start reading the book now (and possibly have no sleep before work tomorrow) or leave it til my trip to leeds on friday… difficult

tonight was lovely – the foyles people were lovely – especially the guy that got up and let us have his chair. sorry for busting in late – though i’m happy to report it only took about 2 minutes to get over being mortified as, lowkey or not, it was all brilliantly fascinating.

ps – to the person i met at josie long’s show at bush hall and who said hello to me this evening – i am so crap and sorry i’ve forgotten your name (is it holly? sorry sorry sorry) – thank you so much for saying hello. i often recognise people but feel way too awkward to actually start a conversation. so, yes, that was cool.

I really enjoyed it – I liked that it was low keyish and intimate. It felt like a uni seminar with a particularly good tutor. I do English and love the seminars, so that’s more of a compliment than it sounds. I suppose I’ll have to re-read the thing now…

I was the girl with Misha and Sam who didn’t speak, by the way. Perhaps at your next gig in Bristol I will manage some words. Thank Giles, too, for giving me directions over the phone – I’d have ended up on the other side of London if it wasn’t for him.

Glad it all went well Mark. Y’know I would have been there if I could. Silly work full of silly poorly people.

No Mark, thank YOU. It perked up a lacklustre Monday no end. And learning so much about slash fiction was an unexpected bonus.

It was really really good, had such a fun time. And also Thank You for signing the xray of my spine!

Also, if you are the guy who was the guy who had given Mark X-Rays before and was standing right behind me when I said ‘someone gave you x-rays before…’, then Hello. Should of been all ‘oh wow, yeah, hello. I’m Helen’ rather than just mumbling hello at you, and I didn’t even ask your name hence why I am refering to you as ‘the xray guy’. Sorry. Shyness has ruined far to many occasions to have a nice little chat with someone.

Hello again Mark… Just wanted to say thanks so much for reading the letter and all, and for thanking me for writing the letter. You’re even more lovely than I thought possible.

    Goodnight,
    Julianna xoxo

I’m glad you’re low key, you are also fascinating. Such a shame my husband couldn’t make tonight as he is your biggest fan, especially your books. But he’s in Italy so I will just have to make him insanely jealous when he comes home on Wednesday.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 3rd x

p.s. sorry Emma destroyed your bookstand, next time she asks for a photo I will make some excuse and drag her away!!
