Dermot and me

This is a night off from my tour. You can still see me performing, ever so briefly, on the O2 Comedy Gala which is shown on Channel 4 tonight. If you’re lucky there might also be some backstage footage of me chatting to Dermot O’Leary. But I should imagine they’ll show him talking to people like Michael McIntyre, and ‘use my footage online’, which is the modern term for ‘not using it’. Still, it was quite a privilege to perform in the show, which probably raised around £800 million for Great Ormond Street, and I’m pretty sure they are using my bit of actual comedy because apparently it was on a trailer. I was slightly less nervous doing the show this year, so anyone who also saw last year’s will be able to report whether this came across.

Some people will come to this website for the first time after the O2 show goes out, so it would be amateurish of me not to say: hello. My gigs are elsewhere on this site. There are loads of them. I hope you will come and see me live at slightly greater length than in the O2 gala. Also, you have a lot of catching up to do on this blog. We’re around 500 days in. Maybe slightly more. Get cracking.

Oh and I’ve got a book out but you can’t keep banging on about that forever.

You will also be pleased to know that you were featured in “More” magazine, they printed some of the best jokes from the gala and one of them was from you and they had a little picture of your face too. You’ve really made it now.

@Matthew, that would be great. This is my first Edinburgh and I am daunted by the amount of things to see :)

If I may give you a tip to see, Nick Helm is going to be my must see.

Misha I too should hang my head in disgrace, but did remember to record it so will redeem myself and watch tonight.

My copy of Eleven arrived yesterday…I know I should have already bought and read it long ago, but I waited to buy it at the Middlesbrough gig earlier in the year, but by the time I got to front of queue you had run out Mark! I thought I would wait until later this year and hope you brought some copies to Stockton, but decided could no longer wait to read it. So I shall maybe just bring my, by then battered well read copy along with me and hopefully you’ll sign it for me…please :-)

    Edinburgh.

Mark, this is an idea you’ll either love or hate so I’ll give it a go.

My wife and I keenly dashed out to HMV in Leeds yesterday to pick up the Edinburgh Fringe programme for 2011 only to spend the afternoon bemoaning how most of our favourites are absent this year (too big for the fest now) or not on when we are due to go (like yourself).

I wonder if you would be willing to devote one of your daily blogs to a Watsonian guide to the Edinburgh Festival with your tips for forthcoming comedy stars.

Now I know it’s not the done to ask people to recommend competitors in any walk of life but I hope the comedy fraternity is a bit different on that score and since you are on the circuit and have a nose for very funny people you could suggest some up and coming comedians.

We have decided to devote the 2011 festival to finding a new set of favourites who haven’t yet appeared on Live at the Apollo or Michael MacIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

If you can impart some wisdom it would be very much appreciated and I promise that, no matter what happens, you will always be our favourite.

Yeah you were on telly with Mr O’Leary last night, I was greatly happy to see you there. Looking forward to it tonight.

Oh, also, just wondered, on the fringe website it says you are there from the 19th but in the blog asking for intrest in maybe helping with part of it you said from the 17th?

I feel that it probably is indeed the 19th, but I wanted to justtt double check the website has it right/your not planning to maybe add more dates, because if it starts on the 19th then sadly I can’t come. Would hate to book different tickets for the 17th and then find you are indeed doing it then too. A long shot I know, but want to make sure.

I’m looking forward to seeing you on tv. Maybe not as excited as I was on Wednesday, but you can’t have everything. At least after this one I won’t have to drive home (by which I mean sit in the passenger seat) with my mother freaking out about there being practically no petrol while driving past an infinite number of closed petrol stations. There were 5, I think. It was like the world was laughing at us. Oh, and we also got lost. Not sure how that happened.
