Tasman

Keep your comments coming on yesterday’s Very Late Review. I can tell you right now, the Moon is on course for a very high score indeed.

I am about to leave Australia and fly across the Tasman to New Zealand. My last show in Sydney went nicely and we sold the second highest number of books ever (the record is still held by Glasgow).

Perhaps surprisingly, the coverage of the royal wedding here in the southern Commonwealth is almost as relentless as it surely is at home, so I will be following events from London with what I suppose I would describe as moderate interest. I suppose I feel about it like some people feel about the Olympics: not really my thing, but important enough that it would be odd not to take notice of it.

    Hi Mark,

Totally out of place this comment, but I saw your show last night at the Seymour, and had to drop you a note to say how fabulous it was! Thanks for an extremely entertaining show!

I guess I would sum up my interest in the Royal Wedding as being happy for them on their wedding day, but happier that I’ve got the day of work as a result. I will watch a little bit as I want to see what Kate looks like in her dress, but the BBC coverage starts with the Breakfast News at 6am and pretty much continues throughout the day with highlights finally finishing at 10pm – which is pretty comprehensive. I should imagine you would have to be a hard core royalist to watch all of that. :)

You’re right, Mark – it’s gotta be worth a look. Why? Well -like it or not – we live in a country which has had a (more or less) unbroken line of kings and queens for over 1000 years. Not many countries can say that (if countries could speak).

On one level, it’s just a marriage of two toffs (one somewhat toffier than the other). But on another level it’s a little bit of history in the making – a direct link to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn or whatever (possibly a bad example)…. Besides – depending on how old you are – you may not get the chance to see another heir to the throne get hitched. It could easily be around 2042 – when we really will be flying around in gyrocopters and Mark will be – er – 60 . Gulp.

So – go on – enjoy! The pomp and pageant may all be bullsh*t – but it’s ye good old British bullsh*t!

Living in an old people’s home, there is alot of excitement around here for the wedding. The place is covered in flags and pictures of the couple, it is very over the top but they love an excuse for a party!

No Royal Wedding for me tomorrow as I will be working at Sainsbury’s as usual. However, I will be paid Bank Holiday Premium Whoo whoo:)

Important in what sense? No offence, but I can scarcely think of anything less important.

I could barely raise enthusiasm for my own wedding so interest in the wedding of two complete strangers seems a little perverse.

Part of the reason I don’t want to watch the Royal Wedding is because I know I will either get bored or fall asleep, and I would feel kind of bad about that. Like I have no romanticism or something. I just don’t think of weddings as particularly romantic.

The closest thing i’ve come to minding eitherway about the Royal Wedding, is that twinings have sent me a free commemerative teabag.
White tea if you’re interested, with rose and bergamot. I shall put it in my flask to drink on the journey tomorrow I think.
