Mark Watson Live DVD - Click to Pre Order.

Moving, keep on moving

Yeah, like Clembear said yesterday, this Twitrelief thing is absolutely not a competition. It’s not a competition. I’m up to £300 though. But it is of course not a competition.

Tonight at my Brisbane show I met two readers of the blog. One of them brought me an unusual item to sign (something which many UK-based readers successfully did during the tour): it was a plate with a drawing of the Clifton Suspension Bridge on it. She said it had been on her wall for twenty years. Now hopefully it will be on there for another twenty, but with Mark Watson scrawled across it. There was also a Secret Watsonian wh ohas been busily doing a TYSIC, or Ten-Year Self Improvement Challenge, without even letting anyone know. Her goal was to travel more. Sure enough she’s already been to Portugal. If you live in Australia this is pretty far. So well done and thank you to both those people.

One more show in Brisbane and then I embark on a peculiar series of tasks. I go to Melbourne and Sydney for a bit, to do TV and other such things to promote my shows in those cities. I fly back home. Almost immediately I go to Germany to appear at a literary festival. I fly home to London. The same day, I fly out to Melbourne all over again, this time with Kit and Mrs W. We arrive in Melbourne and the same night I go on Adam Hills’ television show. Then there’s the festival gala on Wednesday night. Then my show starts on the Thursday.

You’ll understand if I go to bed right now, having thought about all that.

[...] After the show, we went to Mark’s merch-stand where instead of the usual fare of comedy CDs and DVDs, and possibly posters or Tshirts, Mark had his latest novel “Eleven” for sale for $30.00. I had already secured a signed copy thanks to a fellow comedy fan in Melbourne when Mark visited for his book launch last year, (thank you Witchy.) So, in the spirit of bringing something interesting for him to sign, I brought him a plate with a picture of the Bristol Suspension Bridge which had been given to us when we emigrated from Bristol to Brisbane in 1988. He was chuffed to see it and it I told him it will be proudly displayed on my kitchen wall: and for that I was immortalised in his blog. [...]

Sounds like you shall be a busy man in the next couple of weeks!
Looking forward to see ou on Adam’s show. It’s such a great new show hosted by such a funny and kind man.

I wonder if your other TV appearances will be on things like GNW or more like The View and Sunrise.

Either way I hope a fairy gives you magic dust so you don’t get too run down!

But how much is Minchin? Not that it’s a competition ;)

Goodness, that is a hectic traveling schedule, and I do not envy you and Emily taking a small baby on such a long flight. Still, I am very much looking forward to you on Hillsy’s show!

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing something from our home town of Bristol. By signing it you have either ruined a potential antique (in about 80 year’s time,) or, as I like to think, added value because I’ll look at it on my kitchen wall and smile every time I see it… a value you cannot put a price on. :)

Adam’s new show is rating really well, so it should raise your profile and therefore your ticket sales. That is really exciting. Having said that, with so much travel beforehand, (and with Kit flying with you) you may want to nod off on the show, this is not the image you want to project. People probably won’t pay for tickets to see that.

See you tonight! I think I’m in the middle in the scond row, I’ll be the one with the unnecessarily loud laugh.

Wow sounds tiring just reading about it, let alone thinking about it! Have you seen Minchin while you’ve been over there? I’m guessing not, he has been rushing around like a blue arsed thingy as well by all accounts, in between getting drunk and starting arguments on Twitter in the early hours. Great news that you’re good lady and small Mark lookalikey will be travelling back with you … make the best of the long flight … it must be hard not being able to dribble and gurgle in comfort … and must be even worse for Kit (boom boom) x

Your carbon footprint for March is going to be insanely big. So to make up for this, I’m going absolutely nowhere this month. Apart from the hospital, on a bus, which is going there anyway. However, you do now owe me some carbon in the future. Next time I want a holiday, you have to stay at home. Deal? Deal.

£300 is pretty darn good. On the slum programme (with Lenny Henry and co) I think a room in a house was about that. To buy outright.

@Lydia there’s a website http://www.tvcatchup.com/ which lets you stream TV for free; it’s basically all of the Freeview channels. I was sceptical for a long time since I first came across it, but eventually I gave it a go because I was fed up of not having Dave (we don’t get the multiplex) and there genuinely is no catch. There is one advert before it will show you the channel and then the Freeview world is your Oyster …

(Obviously one must legally have a TV licence in order to watch it, as it is streaming the channels as they are broadcast, but as you already have a TV I presume that’s not an issue for you. And for the info of other Watsonians, it only is available in the UK.)

    @h20sarah I’ve DM’d you on the forum :)

That sounds pretty insane. Fun though. And yeah, the sleep thing is acceptable, necessary even.

You should go on the carpool thing. I have only watched it once, when Minchin was on it, but it looked pretty entertaining. Except you’d have to put it on the internet because my tv doesn’t let us have Dave for free.

I’m so glad you are going to be on Adam’s show. Someone is kind enough to put the show up each week for non-Oz folk to watch. I was going to write to the show and suggest they have you on, but I figured they already knew you were there. I also suggested you to Carpool, since a) you can’t drive and he gives people lifts all over London and b) he drives around in environmentally-friendly cars, usually a Prius. The only downside is the car has cameras all over it, and you are filmed having a conversation with Robert Llewellyn. You probably already know all this. But in case you don’t, it’s on Dave and iTunes and YouTube. Minchin has been on. Very funny.

I would bid on the TwitRelief thing, really I would. However, I am quite poor at the moment. You are right, though. It’s not a competition. FYI: Minchin is at £245. You are at £300. Leona Lewis is £500. Go figure.

Safe travels to you and yours.

P.S. It’s my son’s 25th birthday today. He’s in NYC having a right good old time. I’m just feeling old.

@MusicalLottie It doesn’t make it impossible, just trickier. I can let you know how if you email/DM/PM me. x

Wow, and I thought I’d had convoluted travel plans! I hope it all goes well. I wish I could watch Adam Hill’s show with you on, but alas, not being in Australia makes that difficult (impossible, even?).

  15. Posted by Misha on March 12, 2011

That sounds a bit of a mental way to do it. Hope the flying goes ok, and that Kit doesn’t scream all the way to australia.

  16. Posted by h2osarah on March 12, 2011

That sounds absolutely insane to go home for such a small amount of time. But I wish you, Kit and Emily happy travels, and I hope that the flights are a comfortable and on-time as flights can be. x
