A change is coming

…well, a change has already come, but more are sneaking in all stealthy like. This website is under a bit of an overhaul. Soon it will look a bit ‘funkier’, be easier to navigate, and so on. But already the summer Request Stop shows have been put up there, with what they call clickable links so you can buy the crap out of tickets without much effort. There is also a fancy new feature where you can click on a map of the UK and find a show near you. This will really start to pay off soon, when we announce a shedload of bespoke shows for the autumn and winter WHICH WILL HAPPEN ANY TIME NOW. In fact various relatively exciting things are going to be announced in the coming days, first on the mailing list, then on this here blog. And you know I’m a negative person, so I wouldn’t taunt you with relative excitement unless I really was relatively confident. Can hardly put it more strongly than that.

On the subject of the Request Stops, I’m glad to say they are selling well and in fact one is nearly sold out, so we’ve added an EXTRA SHOW at the same place. It’s at Fareham’s Ashcroft Arts Centre on June 15. Thank you Fareham for beating other venues to this milestone.

If the site behaves oddly over the next few days, you’ll know why. It’s just being worked on. It doesn’t, as some feared last night, portend the Blogless Day or even the vanishing of the blog altogether. Perish the thought. And if you follow this blog on an RSS reader – not that I’ve ever quite understood what this means, but I know it goes on – you may find you get more updates than you’d like for a bit. So, er. Turn it off. Or whatever you do with ‘feeds’. All right. I’m out of my depth.

But reasonably excited.

PS If you search for entries with the Category ‘Mark’s Blog’, then you’ll avoid seeing these millions of posts with ticket details for specific shows, I think. I just made that up myself, with no consultation with web experts. But I think that’s how you differentiate the actual blog from admin type stuff. Hmm. Good luck.

Thank you Lisa D! Onwards and upwards is the only way I intend on going! And if course having a good evening full of laughs to look forward to is perfect! :) x

I am waiting and waiting for this mailing list announcement. That is, if I’m even on the mailing list. I think I am. I must be…

These web site developments sound interesting.
Will there be changes to your photographs on the blog too? Much as I like the one of you wearing the red stripey shirt, the stipes do funny things to tired eyes!
I couldn’t help noticing that your left hand’s the one on view in that particular photo and, knowing your’re left handed, was wondering whether, like me, you’re hassled by the problems of being left handed in this right handed world we live in? Adapting to scissors, corkscrews, computer mice, table settings, never being able to slice bread straight, the impossibility of following directions based on ” go right”, “turn left”, the inclination to sit on the left in cinemas/ theatres and ALWAYS automatically turing left when coming out of shops and buildings, even when I should be going to the right….the list is endless! Or is it just me??

Anji, I’m completely impressed with you. Taking a stand for anything in such trying times can be hard. That was heroic. Sorry things are going badly. At least there’s the show to look forward to.

I’m glad everything’s ok. I must confess I was alarmed with all the stuff in the rss feed, and broken commenty bits, and then I got confused about the date and thought the blogless day had arrived. It was all a bit embarassing. Anyway, all’s well that ends well. Hope all the blog changes go well – now I know that it’s meant to be happening I shall stop worrying.

By the way are you having a lovely time far far away? I wish I was in a warm place like Australia – it’s bloomin’ cold here. If Emily’s reading this – hope you and Kit aren’t too lonely without Mark x

I’d just like to point out that as my 9 year relationship has been breaking down, while sorting out house type splitting I asked about the tickets for the Exeter show in June – thankfully it didn’t end in killing for them, and they are now in my purse! I wasn’t really not going to fight for them, somethings you have to make a stand for!
So, that’s also why I’ve been quiet for the last few weeks, but have certainly kept reading!

In the ancient Mayan blog calander the end of days is predicted by clickable links, exploding RSS feeds, missing blog entries and archives full of geographical locations.

Some theologians suggests that this means Armegeddon and the Blogless day will soon be upon us.

Others simply believe that the world will alter around the constancy of the blog and be renewed.

Historians suggest that Mayan couldn’t possible predict the end of the Blog because they didn’t have the internet, computers etc. But others say there’s no telling what they knew.

As an ex-web developer and general IT geek – may I just say don’t worry about understanding RSS feeds – I once tried explaining what the RSS stood for to someone and they glazed over in about 10 seconds. So I vowed not to bore anyone with it again.

All you need to know is that you subscribe to a RSS feed using a feed reader (Google Reader is just one, there are many) and it checks for new content bringing it to you rather than you having to go and find it yourself. You can also unsubscribe as any time as well – simple really :)

I confess it was me who worried the blogless day had arrived. I checked the site and there was nothing, no new post, no old posts, nothing. So whoever is amending your website can they make sure they test the changes before putting them live as I can’t take another shock like that after a long stressful day at work!

You can read the blog in different places? There is an RSS feed? I think I will just stick to what I know, like when I order the same thing at a restaurant.

There will probably be a way of subscribing just to your blog without subscribing to the rest of the site – when the changes are complete I’ll check but it should be simple enough.

Change? Argh! (that s all I have to say)

I use an RSS feed and I’m not even completely sure what it is. Which is why I don’t know how to turn it off. If anyone knows how to actually work Google reader I would appreciate advice? It confuses me a lot.

Bookmarks are a lot easier, I think.

That makes sense. It was a bit unnerving not knowing why it was being strange yesterday, though at one point the archive showed multiple titles of various places; I guess that’s what you meant by the extra millions of posts through the RSS feed. Not that I know how to use that …

Ooh, exciting stuff! I rather like clickable maps :)
