Large-scale events

A little bit of proper-blog-work now, i.e. actually using this website to promote forthcoming Large-Scale Events (LSEs, except that acronym was claimed first by the London School of Economics), rather than – as I tend to do – cramming it with hundreds of other things irrelevant and in some cases even slightly counter-productive to my career.

The first event – we’ve talked about this – the live radio recording on the 28th. Thanks to everyone who’s signed up for tickets to this. We’re closing the lines now, as it were, but we should – SHOULD – be able to accommodate everyone I think. If not, it will be the people who signed up first. (We considered a pioneering ‘last come, first served’ policy, but it seemed a bit of a risk.) Naturally, if you don’t get in, you can/should/even must listen on Radio Four at 11pm on the 28th. Larks.

So, if you signed up, you should await an official-sounding, but friendly email, probably from someone called Lianne. It will give you instructions on collecting your tickets, as well as stern warnings about letting her know if you actually can’t make it. Good.

The other thing – on July 3, I will finally record a DVD. Yes I recorded one once before, and yes it’s (frustratingly) been advertised in all sorts of places before, but no, for reasons well beyond my control and also quite boring, it never came out. This one will. You watch. It’ll come out before Christmas.

We polled opinion on good venues, as we did for the (very soon to be announced) next tour, but in this case the pull of my home town theatre was irresistible. So it’ll be a long and quite exciting night. I’m most likely to do millions of jokes, spanning my whole career, and end up with about fourteen hours of DVD. That’s not how they recommend doing it, but that’s what I imagine it’ll be like. I would love the support of the sort of fans who might have heard jokes before but still laugh at them. Although such will be the range of material plumbed for the DVD that whoever you are, there’ll be some stuff you’ve not heard. Probably. Nearly all of you, anyway.

It’s £10, which was the cheapest I was allowed to make it, because I’d really like people to come.

So. Radio show. DVD. All fine. If none of this suits you still, remember those tour dates are coming. And now I must go and entertain 1000 employees of a well-known supermarket chain. A typical evening.

Just bought tickets to your last Brisbane show on the Sunday, I didn’t even know they were on sale! They’re on not on the gigs page. So excited.

I can’t afford the recording because train fairs are expensive but I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out [:

Booked Bristol DVD recording but it’s £15 per ticket not £10. That’s still a very fair price and I paid it happily but now reading your blog, I’m just curious about the £5 difference in the price you expected Mark – unless I misread the blog (entirely possible) … I used the link you tweeted ?? Maybe that’s a concession price.

Looking forward to it already and will listen to the live radio show…live and …on the radio.

Hate to be ‘that guy’ but also aware you’re the kind of person who might find this interesting/useful: Acronyms are pronounceable abbreviations. Otherwise they’re intitalisms.

    I nit-pick because I love, if that makes any sense. If i didn’t care I wouldn’t say. I paraphrase a lot.

While I’m unable to attend either of those events, I am about to book tickets to see you in Sydney. And I promise to buy the DVD :P

Yay for DVDs! I would love to be able to come to the recording, but I’m currently still trying to suss out how to get to Edinburgh this year; I definitely can’t justify going to the UK twice in a matter of months. (Well, not again anyway!)

I’m sure the show will be aces, and I look forward to seeing the DVD when it comes out! And I’ve already got the 28th off of work, mostly so that I can move into my new house, but also so I can be sure I’ll be able to tune into the live show online. I’m so glad BBC radio isn’t region restricted. If only the same were true of the tv iplayer :(

How quickly is the DVD recording likely to sell out? I reeeeally want to come but it’s a bit too soon for me to commit.

    Eeeepz.

I realise I was undecided in my comment on the original post… If there is a possibility that I could… OH, it’s probably too late… but if it’s not…

Basically, Mark, is it too late to change my “maybe” to a “yes”?

I’ve decided to change my TYSIC to incorporate stop putting things off because I’m scared they might be hard.

Well, owing to matters such as “living in Cardiff” my tickets for trains etc on the 28th are already booked. I am more than happy to turn up early to attend the show, naturally.

Tickets also booked for Brizzle! Which means I owe Amy money or some such. Looking forward to both.

I’m flying back from Poland on the 3rd, otherwise I’d have attempted it :(

I will be at both, hooray!

    It also makes me sad.

Ooo how exciting! Might actually try and come along on the 3 July, could tie it in with a weekend of visiting family and friends up that way too! Plus I’ll just be back in the country after holiday so it all seems good! I’ll work on that!
Only 2 more sleeps till Torquay! And after the mentions on soccer am I hope you find it’s sold a few more tickets! Torquay just aren’t used to things happening there! Hope Plymouth goes well tomorrow night, a rough old place, and always windy ;) enjoy

It makes me said knowing that I can’t come to the Bristol recording. I’d have to get up at something like 4.30 or 5am in order to get the train back in time for work. Of course, my whole family know what to expect for Christmas next year.

I am coming to both of those. LOVELY.
