February II

Just when you feared it was going to be another late finish, I have the situation under control. Nobody panic! Nobody hack into the blog and say it’s not happening! Nobody kill themselves! We have a blog once more.

We are now into February for the second time in our joint history, which means that very soon it will be the first birthday of this strange little tradition. God, I’d better make sure I post it nice and punctually on that day, or it really will be too much. Or I suppose I could try and pull a coup de theatre and wait till 11.59 on purpose. But in any case, what’s actually going to happen for that first anniversary blog? If you’ve got any ideas do let me know, I’ve got nothing at this stage, and it wouldn’t quite be appropriate just to write ‘well, today I had some tea. Oh by the way, ONE YEAR!!’.

Just to remind you that the blog offering tickets to the recording of the LIVE DANGEROUS EXCITING MAYBE DREADFUL Radio 4 show is still sitting there attracting comments. If you were intending to sign up but haven’t, do it soon. Or you might cause admin problems for yourself and others. And that from me is about as dire a warning as you will ever get.

I think you should have balloons. And cake, of course. But nothing represents joy and hilarity like balloons. Plus, the helium can help perk things up if the celebration starts to lag. No one doesn’t sound hilarious if they’ve sucked in a lungful of helium.

I am liking this cake idea a lot.

Can everyone stop mentioning cake, it’s making me hungry! But seeing as cake has already been mentioned, let’s make a giant big fat gypsy wedding style cake, and then eat it. :-)

Or something better than that. I think we should all go for a nice walk in the Peak District.

At school one time all the kids who had behaved themselves all year got to see a magic show and eat pink cake. I think we have all behaved ourselves pretty well all year…

Hey Someone! I’m guessing it was you hogging MW at The Horne Section on Monday. I was hoping for some Where’s Watson points too..

Can I still get some anyway Mark? Please?

How about a couple of thoughts on the blog’s first year from every Watsonian willing to contribute?

Hi Mark. I don’t know where all the time’s going! When I was a child it went by incrediblly slowly and now it races along without giving me time to do everything I want to do during the day and that’s from a housewife! God knows how you and everyone else fit everything in! The blog’s been going a year? I’m stll a relative newcomer here, I know and having neglected to buy unsalted butter with which to make biscuits the cream will now have to be used in celebratory lemon syllabubs. Right, I’ll quit my inane ramblings for today. Take care, Tracey x

It seems to have gone incredibly fast.

Hello! – I think that’s about what I managed to say on Monday to you at the Horne Section bar. I DO apologise about that, but looking back, I can hardly manage to speak to every day people without having a nervous heart attack so people who are on the telly… well striking dumb was bound to happen, really.
But I think my brother did pretty well talking to you! He’s the one who said how you were good in Liverpool years ago (Andy). He doesn’t read the blog but he was chuffed to meet you too. He (and for that matter the rest of my family) have no problems with being normal and chatting away. I just stood there and said hello and bye, which might have come across as I’m not a fan… but clearly I am. Just a socially inept one. ANYway, point is, you were v good. I liked the Frankie Boyle stuff. It’s just weird coz you seem all nice and laid back off stage… on stage you’re all jittery, ha. I guess that’s performing for ya. Was a brilliant show overall anyway. Well worth the death-defying coach endurance trip. You know, even I’m finding it hard to believe I can be quite so silent in real life when I can type like this. ANYway, I’ll pretend we had a nice conversation and sorry for acting stupid. This is the sort of thing my tysic was for. Being a proper human, as you say. Clearly I have a long way to go. Maybe in 10 years time I’ll manage a whole real-life sentence.
Sorry, I think the cold is making me type faster, and with less self-editing.
    Lizzy

    Cake!

    Yum.

    Cake.

Although I’m more of a biscuiteer myself.

I might well rustle up some gingerbread in celebration.

I have absolutely no objection to Josh’s suggestion. None. :)

I say that for the anniversary we have a special sacrifice to the sun god Ra.

That way we can be sure that next year will come.

I’ve heard a rumour that Ra likes 15 year olds from the midlands as sacrifices. That’s all I’m saying.

NO. I HAVE THE BEST IDEA.
We all make a birthday cake.
And then we all take pictures of the cakes.
And then we eat the cakes.

It was better in my head.

    But still,
    CAKE.

A year… Crazy… I do worry that if we get to, say, 8 and 1/2 years in and THEN have a Blogless Day that there will be actual breakdowns…

Some people may have started panicking already, but only a little ;)

However, I think if you were to purposefully leave the anniversary blog until anything even remotely resembling late, various people might start plotting your death!

Phew – February blog appeared after all! Thank Gawd.

Still worrying about the Boyle Effect… or rather Boyle’s Law which states “ye who cross me will forever have glitches on yr blog – och aye..!”
