One night stand

Tomorrow I’ll be in Bristol filming a show for Dave called One Night Stand. You might have seen it before. People do stand-up in their home towns, and set the scene by waltzing around the town pointing out the place where they first kissed a girl (for example. It won’t actually be that in my case, because the place I first kissed a girl was in her parents’ house and we probably wouldn’t get permission to film there). I’m not sure when it’s going to be broadcast but on that night, I will not only be doing all manner of funnies on Dave, I also get to program Dave for the night (!) I think I’m confined to stuff they own, which is of course mostly old panel shows. I don’t think I’m allowed to choose things like the 1966 World Cup Final or the Godfather Trilogy or a fight to the death between Piers Morgan and himself. But even so. Pretty fun.

I’m also doing a pilot for Dave soon. Good old Dave.

(If you’re abroad, Dave is a digital channel which replays old comedy shows stretching back to about 1921, ensuring that people like me appear on television around three times a week without even doing anything. But you probably know that already, because a lot of you seem almost better versed in British TV than I am, and have ‘torrent’ sites where you succeed in watching it by devious means.)

So there you go. A bit of career-updating, there. I now return to the business of bashing out this next novel. But first I’ll press ‘publish’ on this blog. Just soon enough to post this and stop anyone panicking. Although a lot of people already think the Blogless Day has been and gone because they can’t see the new blogs any more because of this ongoing technical problem. Oh dear. Maybe Dave is going to have to start showing the old ones again.

I adore Dave. It just takes all of the awesome shows and replays them endlessly. :D

They also have Fifth Gear I suppose… but you can’t have everything your way.

“I now return to the business of bashing out this next novel” is such an awesome thing to be able to say.

Yay for a new novel :)

I have found a new trick to actually get to the blog. Put the date in the URL. E.g. http://www.markwatsonthecomedian.com/web/2011/01/18

Then again, I have had other tricks before that have completely failed me at random. But for now, this seems to be working. Phew.

That is quite the privilege, I’m excited to see what you pick. Do you also get to pick who else on your show?

At the risk of sounding odd and accusatory, I wish I’d known about your One Night Stand earlier! I applied for tickets a couple of days ago but haven’t heard anything. I live near the Hippodrome so will loiter outside pulling sad faces. Hope it goes well! Looking forward to seeing it on good old Dave.

Ya I’m familiar with Dave, mostly from watching Argumental and somewhat disappointing Red Dwarf thingy.

Speaking of Piers Morgan could you pass this plea on to the rest of the UK: PLEASE TAKE HIM BACK!!!! He’s just horrid. Wasn’t unleashing Simon Cowell on us punishment enough? Come on, don’t tell me you’re still upset about that whole tea dumping thing…

By a funny co-incidence i’m going to Bristol tomorrow too, i’ve got a job interview and then i’m going with Goose to see some comedy and eat cinnamon buns.
Hurrah for Bristol! Hurrah for Dave! Hurrah for cinnamon buns!

    WOOO, great stuff.

I look forward to your night with great anticipation, I suggest you just put Black Books on all evening with an interval for your gig.

I realise they had a Black Books night mere days ago but they need to make the most of their purchases.

Well that’s a bit exciting. I saw the one Jack Whitehall did with The DOD and Andrew Lawrence, and I have to say that I rather enjoyed it.

I’m assuming that you also get to do it with two other comedians. But who? I wonder…

Has everybody in UK gone to bed. Surely I can’t be the first.

I wish I knew how to “torrent.” I’m a slave of You Tube.

    Goodnight from USA.

Do you get to rename the channel “Mark” for one night?

I possibly (definitely) snorted with laughter at ‘a fight to the death between Piers Morgan and himself’. I’m glad you’re a comedian.
