In the current climate

Thanks to Josh and others for ‘global warming’ advice. I think we can all agree that climate change is a more helpful title and that the general screwing-around-with-our-climate caused by CO2 emissions tends to throw things weirdly off kilter rather than specfically heating everywhere up at the same time. This is more or less what I said in my climate change lecture and I even had a squiggly diagram of the Gulf Stream to back me up, but I still feel on uneasy ground when people ask me to explain weather phenomena. Largely because I am not a climatologist but a comic who went on a three-day course. So it’s nice to have back-up.

Emily’s middle name was (is) Annette. Not an easy one, I’ll grant you.

I can’t blog further owing to the snow, and by the snow I mean the need to watch The Apprentice final with said wife. If you’ve not been watching it, it’s a bit late to catch up now, but basically it’s a well-educated banker against an ill-educated but steely businesswoman. I predict she’ll win. As ever, the series has been a gripping portrait of ambitious, often deluded people fighting desperately for a job that’s not even particularly attractive. Its critics say it’s not
much like real business. But hey. Most toys don’t get up to as
much as the ones in Toy Story.

I wanted Chris to win. Stella was really dull and had a grand total of zero creativity. She was efficient, but Chris can come up with ideas and be creative, which to me is far more important.

My middle name guess was very wrong. Ah well.

I’m glad Stella won, I think she deserved to. Chris’s voice was too annoying.

Poor little Stuart on the extra show with Dara O’Briain afterwards! I know he’s a bit of a twat, but his poor little face! One minute they were talking about how truly atrocious he is, and he looked as if he didn’t know what to make of it and then the next moment Stella’s all like ‘but I love him!’ and they’re congratulating him for making it a brilliant series and he looks a bit happier and smiles. And them BOOM with more criticism. I mean, I’m not sure if anyone knew this, but he IS only 21…

Interesting point – Oil companies actually lobbied the US congress to make them use the term “climate change” instead of global warming, because it sounds less serious. And it worked even better then they’d hope, with this becoming the common term in regular use.
“Come on guys, we’ll just get a few more summer storms! and Sunny winters!” instead of “The fucking planet is getting hotter”, when the latter is definatly more accurate.
I’m not saying don’t use the term Climate Change, but the actually problem is Global Warming, the warming of the earth. Which in tern produces the changes in weather, such as snowstorms and the like. It’s important not to confuse weather and climate as they are completely different.

I really thought it was going to be Chris because they kept using words like ‘innovative’ to describe him.

Hi Mark. We watched The Apprentice and I was pretty pleased that Stella won although my daughter wanted Chris to win! I don’t think my husband was too bothered.I really thought that the London tours she and Jamie Lester did were both absolutely awful. Who takes people past the Ten Bells pub and doesn’t mention Jack the Ripper? What’s your pick from the tv on offer over Christmas? Tracey x

    The apprentice truly bemuses me.

Also, back near a computer, I can let people now that the 5 of us who made it to the meet enjoyed ourselves very much, and we’re planning to have a re-run in the spring (hopefully with better weather) just as soon as the stress of this one subsides.

I’m pretty pleased that Stella won. And that I may have spoilt it for anyone who is planning to watch it on iPlayer. Mwahaha.
    That is all.

Annette eh? I guess Anneka wasn’t as far away as I had expected.

I watched the top 100 toys and games this evening, which was fun. Too sleepy for more TV, especially for watching the final of a series I haven’t seen. :-)

I am currently watching the Apprentice without having seen the rest of the series. My brother’s commentary is catching me up and is more entertaining than the actual show. Not sure yet who should win. As usual probably neither or both.

I think Stella will win, but both make rather dull television. Although dull television is better than horrific television (ie Baggs).
Also first comment wise (hopefully still first comment) could you please give us an indication of some of your favourite things of the year, albums, films etc, or most underrated? I’d find that interesting. Others may not. But what is the point of having a blog other than to add undue weight to your opinions, oh and to try and make the world a better place.
    Merry Christmas.
