Appeals

Today, an appeal for help from certain parties. Not thrilling perhaps, but crucial.

It’s to do with the iPod which, for more than six months now, has been changing hands between Watsonians in one of the oddest journeys ever undertaken by a small purple Mp3 player, on its perverse path into the hands of competition-winner-from-a-long-time-ago, Anna. As you can see below, in a note from the Logistics Team, it has now clocked up an only just believable 2800 miles. However, its progress has been held up by some slow responses. So if you’re one of the people involved in this, please get in touch with Rachel or Rick via whichever channels they used in the first place.

That’s all for now. Here’s the note, which gives you more iPod-related news. And on the subject of appeals, today I recorded some stuff for Red Nose Day. In March you will be able to see me pulling funny faces, saying things like ‘your money really does make a difference’, and wearing a foamy nose which, to be honest, really makes it quite hard to breathe.

We’re having a bit of a problem getting people to reply and get involved with the iPod chain. I sent out an email to the northern groups a few weeks ago and only got two or three replies. There’s about 30 people left who haven’t been linked in so far, so we’re planning on emailing them all asking if they still want to be involved, and if they don’t reply within a certain time limit (any ideas how long, guys?) then they’ll be crossed off the list. If you could mention in a blog at some point soon that replying to emails about handovers and the like would really help us then that would be great.

Handover-wise there’s not much to update you on from when we saw you in Birmingham, apart from that The Package met Tim Key, and he’s picked a song for it. He was rather confused. The map is now up to date too, and it turns out the iPod has travelled 2800 miles, which is the equivalent of travelling across the USA from New York to San Francisco. Exciting!

We’ll let you know if/when things pick up…

    @Gilly Its mp3challenge@live.co.uk

    @Tibbs There’s a Google Document here – https://docs.google.com/document/d/18qXnRsf-Pace0M060_lkrQGY446vjkxJvweNxWN2W1A/edit?hl=en&pli=1#

    and a Spotify playlist here -
    http://open.spotify.com/user/pandorapink/playlist/6SeRNehTMeiYGCeTRTwahV

    Its worth checking both, cos there’s a few songs that have been put on that Spotify didn’t have available.

    Is there a list of what songs have already been added to the iPod? I’ve got a few ideas, but I don’t want to accidentally sent a double.

    Hi Mark. The ipod thing sounds fascinating! Regrettably I won’t be able to get involved but it’s interesting hearing about it. Going back to the “lurker” or “QIP” blog of a day ago, I agree that it’s very unlikely that you’ll ever have only one reader. Your blog brightens my day. On that note, have a great day . Tracey x

    I’ll be home in England from Christmas to New year, and would be delighted to take it either way across the ocean (to/from SF, ironically) … failing that, I know there was an email for people to send song to, but have never been able to find it. Anyone?

    I’m always excited when the iPod gets mentioned. Its a rather remarkable story, and I wish that I could participate in a link up, but sadly it is not to be. I think that when the iPod finally gets to Anna we should all have a party. No matter where we are. That would be fun.

    Hi Mark, I would say I’m almost in the lurker category although have to say I too prefer QIP. I’ve only commented a few times but wanted to say fantastic show in Cheltenham tonight, inspired start to the show (I won’t give anything away but if you’re going, get there early you won’t regret it – actually if you’re not going why not… get your tickets now)
    It usually takes the crowd here a bit of time to thaw and I think it made people get into show from early on.
    Anyway just wanted to say it was great, and all the way back to my car I could hear loads of others saying the same x

    As a lessser part in the logistics team, I’d like to add to this another please. As in please do get in touch, we’d love to get it to Anna sooner rather than later.

    Hmmm…I’m in the north but haven’t received any e-mails. I even check my junk mail so it can’t be there. Does this include the north-west? I’m certainly still up for adding songs to the iPod.

    I’d love to get involved with the iPod travels!

    @Suzy and @Ingrid – We’re not adding any more people to the map, because we had to have a cut-off point to stop this challenge lasting the whole ten years! However if you wanted to submit a song then you can email it to mp3challenge@live.co.uk and it’ll be put on for you, and we’ll put you on the map as well.

    @Laurs Well, Birmingham is where you’ll find all the best Watsonians…!

    How do we get involved in the first place? i would be really interested in taking to ipod up north with me…

    People should respond to their emails, it’s fun meeting the famous iPod! I had a great time with it in Birmingham! Meeting Mark and other Watsonians helped it be a special occasion too!

    March seems like an awfully long time to wait to see you in a funny nose!

    If I’d thought to suggest it sooner, it could have come to Wales and gone on a trip to Dublin with me last week! D’oh!

    Does the iPod want to come to Wales? It doesn’t look like it’s coming this way from the Google map …
