Dundee! Dundee!

I’m writing this in the back of a car on the way back from recording 8 Out Of 10 Cats. It’s pretty rock and roll. And by rock and roll, I mean slightly nauseating. The screen’s too small. But on we go.

There were many many good venue suggestions yesterday, thank you all. The people who organise my tours and
DVDs are now poring over them.

But I wanted to devote today’s blog to tackling a problem identified by one commenter, Emily. It is what I call the Dundee Problem.

In brief: there was a Dundee date on my forthcoming tour – as with the last tour. For reasons which are boring and not much to do with me, it got cancelled. BUT we found another theatre and managed to reschedule it for the next night- November 14.

However, nearly all ticket websites show it as being cancelled, and hardly anyone seems to know I am at the Whitehall Theatre, Dundee, on November 14. So in the middle of a tour which is now selling healthily enough, I have this rogue show which has sold about 14 tickets out of three million. (Maybe I shouldn’t have taken on a 3 million seat venue. But you see my point.)

So I am using this entire blog to put on record that I am absolutely coming to Dundee on November 14. All of me will be there. I will physically be present in Dundee. I will exist there for the evening. I want that to be clear.

If you know a Scottish person, tell them. If you are a Scottish person, come to the show, unless you’re already coming to Glasgow or Dunfermline or Edinburgh. If you are on Twitter, put #watsondundee at the end of tweets for no reason and let’s get it trending. If you are on Facebook, start a Group. If you are Paxman, slip it in at the end of Newsnight.

I want the world to know I intend to perform in Dundee. Please help to spread the word.

Dundee.

I am playing Dundee.

Glad that’s cleared up: at one point there were listings for you appearing 2 venues in 2 nights in Dundee!! We’re having something of a comedy gold-rush here lately…

Dundee Dundee inspired there by Blondie?

Now that everyone knows you might need a bigger venue, 3 million isn’t very ambitious is it?

Oh, and in reply to Katie calling it Fundee. Up here we prefer “Scumdee”. That’s not so ironic.

I would love to come down from Aberdeen for it. But there’s a small problem of me being in the Philippines until the 20th. Move it back a week and I can do it. :D

I’m afraid I can’t come to Dundee and I don’t know anyone who lives anywhere near there, although I will try and get #watsondundee trending!

I should say though, with regard to this: “The people who organise my tours and DVDs are now poring over them.” A while back you did a blog or two about words and phrases people mis-used that made you angry (or at the very least mildly annoyed). My bugbear is people using ‘poured’ instead of ‘pored’. Someone ‘pouring’ over words SOUNDS QUITE DISGUSTING.

    That is all.

Um… what about Buenos Aires? Haha sorry for being so insistent. I agree with Catherine, I’ll just watch your videos that night. It’s my birthday on the 15th of November though, and because of the time difference it could be my birthday while you’re doing your show, would you mind asking the audience to wish me a happy birthday? Maybe some singing and dancing would be nice too, and you could bring an Argentina-shaped cake…
    Just kidding xx

Like a good admin fairy I should point out that the updated details of the Dundee show have been on the forum ever since it was announced.
Sadly it doesn’t show up on search engines very highly.

    Yes, I’m a nerd. :)
    DUNDEE DUNDEE DUNDEE.

    If only I could be
    in Dundee
    on November 14.

Wait, I can, but it’s Dundee, Florida. I’ll just watch Mark Watson YouTube videos that night.

Damn it, all the comments I wanted to make, someone else had beaten me to it!

I do enjoy the idea of having #watsondundee on the end of completely unrelated posts. And thanks for helping to improve my geographical knowledge; up until now I was unaware that Dundee was in Scotland. I find if I don’t make an effort to look up the actual locations of places I hear about, I will just assign them a place in my mind, and then my mental landscape ends up being skewed quite strongly away from reality.

“Fun” fact: My pal Lyndsey and I call Dundee “Fundee”. This is ironic. (Lyndsey stays up there. I’ll tell her you’re coming up.)

I’m not entirely sure where exactly Dundee is. I assume it’s sort of north, ish.

As someone who lives in Perth, approximately 23.6 miles from Dundee, might I offer my house as an alternative venue? Should you not sell any more tickets that is.
Given that precious little happens in Dundee on any given evening, I would imagine that it won’t be too hard to persuade a few people to come along!

Oh and on the off-chance someone reads this blog and wonders “Where can I get tickets to this great show in Dundee? Ticketmaster seems unhelpful” I direct you here http://www.seatadvisor.eu/whitehall.htm because Ticketmaster is redundant in this case.

November 14 you say? Dundee was it? Did we get that right?

It’s also my Mun’s birthday, this could have solved her present. 500 (ish) miles may be a bit far to travel though.
But I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know. Just in case.

THIS BLOG MAKES ME VERY HAPPY :-D *Ahem* I feel it makes up for its lack of publicity up until now. I’ve told many Scottish people and have bullied 3 of them into going. (To be fair they do actually like your comedy, it didn’t take much bullying, more gentle nagging.)

I’ve heard there’s a splended comedy gig to be seen in Dundee on 14 November…

    Didn’t quite catch that… where?

    So, you’re playing Dundee then?
