Saving a life, mashing up a banana
Thanks for your Firsts yesterday. There are several strong candidates for the Toblerone, including saving a life and mashing up a banana. And that’s a sentence I’d not imagined myself writing. It would have made much more sense to do this at the end of the year, I guess, but don’t panic- I have some ideas lined up for then.
There have been lots of good posts on the TYSIC site and I am days away now from doing another round-up, this time with a bit of a twist. If you are updating your progress I AM READING YOUR WORDS. Even the person who wrote ‘I doubt Mark will ever read this’. In fact, especially her. Keep it going.
Hey, who wants to come and see me recording that sports-based show of funnies I’m doing for ITV4? You just have to be able to get to the South Bank in London on a Monday night. It helps to be a sports fan, just in terms of enjoying the jokes and banter, but there will not be a trivia test on the door or anything. If you are interested, register your interest below. I don’t know how many tickets I can get for ‘Watsonians’. But a few, I reckon.
Oops I must go. This was brief but they all count. I’ve just run a long way. For fun/exercise. Not because of a monster attack or anything.

I would like to come too!

I’d be very interested in attending if it happened to be in half term, 25th October. An excuse to go to London and the bonus of seeing you to would be an excellent way to prepare for my birthday!!

Oh how I wish I could go but I live in the wrong city for such capers. However I have told friends who love comedy. On a different note the pastry went well and became an amazingly buttery and crumbly base for rasberry bakewell slices. It looks beautiful and I felt a little resentful at having to give it to my friend, regardless of her mother’s party. I only hope it tastes half as lovely as it looks. In fact I have a picture I’ll stick up on the blog, I’m quite proud.

I’m interested in tickets, not exactly sure when exactly I’ll be available etc but I like the idea at least.

Mark, if you can get me two tickets for a recording on Monday 25th October ( if you’re recording then ) it would be lovely! Half term, a day out in Londontown and what sounds like an excellent show to finish – marvellous. I was introduced to you via Fighting Talk, so this sounds ideal.
When are you next on Fighting Talk, by the way?

I would bloody love to come. I know literally nothing about sport, but am quite happy to let sports-related jokes go straight over my head and look enthusiastic. And I can most definitely get to the South Bank on a Monday evening.

I was just wondering what a Watsonian actually is and if i am one. Is it if you are registered on this blog or is it something else? x

I would definitely be interested in potentially going to the TV recording of a sports based show featuring you, particularly if there happened to be one on the 15th of November however if there was tickets for other dates I’m sure I’d manage to work it.
Now I must go and update my TYSIC…

I couldn’t think of any interesting firsts, then I realised that I was called ‘mummy’ for the first time. He generally only says it near meatimes (as in ‘mummy, I need feeding, now!’ and sometimes it turns into ‘marmite’ instead, but still…
I would like tickets if there are any left, please! I know nothing about sport, but husband does, and if I get tickets for this it might make up for the fact that I’ve no idea what to get him for his 30th birthday in 3 weeks time.

Reading this in the uni library another few ‘Firsts’ occured to me.
I met the first person who was a fan of my blog.
I became a Watsonian (official) for the first time.
And I passed my driving test. Not first time, but that did lead to me being able to drive places on my own for the first time. Sadly none of these yet compete with banana mashing or life savery, but still. I’m stuck here with little else to do.

I would like to put my name down for the shows if any of the recordings happen to be on 18,25 of Oct or 1,8 of Nov as I will be in London for the preceeding weekends…….if they are not I will stand aside. Thank you

I don’t know my university timetable, or how much free time I’ll have, or how difficult it is to get to London. But other than that I’d love to come…
My “firsts” weren’t particularly impressive. I’ve had more “lasts” this year than firsts. I concur with Catherine- bananas are disgusting. And evil. They lurk in things like Banoffee and traumatise you.

Being a Watson fan and a sports fan and a Londoner – I’d love to be at recordings of the show if that was at all possible.

You’ve already had lots of requests for tickets so no worries at all if it’s not possible but I’d love to come along!

Aha … I’m not the only one to recount my firsts for this year on the life saving and mashed banana day instead … phew!!
BUT, before I get round to that I’d like to put MY request in for a couple of tickets to see the filming of one of your TV sports quiz shows … you know how much I genuinely love all sport. If you can only offer me a single ticket I might have to come and stay with you!!! Although I am pretty good with babies … hey, do you need a nanny???
I digress … my firsts for the year. Top of the list has to be achieving the highly prestigious title & incredible honour of becoming THE “Senior Watsonian” beating off all opposition to win by at least a complete decade!!!
Which, naturally, leads on to me hitting my 70th … for the first time … I’m aiming to go round the clock and try for a second attempt …
And another first was when one of my daughters and I won tickets in the annual lottery to see the Ladies Final at Wimbledon … AMAZING!!! The match itself was pretty one sided but we ran round like a couple of kids looking at ALL the places we’d seen so many times on TV over the years … We also saw the Gentlemen’s Doubles Final & the Ladies Doubles Final … BRILLIANT!!!
And, my family clubbed together to get me my very, very, own unique personalised number plate for my birthday!!! Definitely a first but for a life time now …
Thank goodness life continues to bring you “firsts” … EVERY single year! Mostly, you remember the great, the good and the exciting ones … Perhaps I’ll be able to add seeing Mark at a TV recording session … who knows, eh???

Yes please to tickets if possible! I like and can even do sport (would be doing some RIGHT THIS MINUTE if I wasn’t being pathetically ill in bed instead). And a trip to London would enable me to do something Toblerone-worthy…
xx

Banana masher wins. That took great courage. Bananas are evil. I can ‘t stand to look at, touch, feel, smell, or anything a banana. I couldn’t serve them to my children when they were little, and yet, they still eat them. That’s how evil and insidious they are, the bananas, not my children. Although you can never be sure.

Hey Mark, a couple of tickets would be lovely to your show if at all possible!
Oh, an my “first” is getting a blog on the 442 website. I’m their occassional League 1 blogger now. It’s pretty cool. And believe it or not, it all came about from me tweeting you about your blog for them. So, thanks!

Spent ages trying to think of a proper “first” then I remembered how giddy i got when i blitzed the bathroom in July and replaced a broken toilet seat and fixed a tap without any help, it felt very very satisfying and i was quite smug when my fella came home to discover that I’d given up on waiting for him to fix it all and done it myself

Hello
I’m actually still trying to think of something I’ve done for the first time this year. It could take a while…. In the meantime I’d like to let you know that I’d very much like to come and see you recording the sports-type show please and thank you very much. I like you and sport (not golf, it’s not a sport) and telly. And South Bank is on my way home from work. So y’know… all quite handy really. Thank you.

Monday? Damn, the one day of the week I can’t do.
(Lectures 11-8, it’s hell)
Otherwise i’d be there like a shot.
Unless you’re recording during my reading week, which isn’t til november. 8th, in which case consider my interest registered and i’ll be there like a shot.

A couple of tickets for the sports-based show would be lovely, me and Helen could go on a London adventure!

Ooh I’ve love to come to the sports thing please if at all possible? South Bank on mondays are no problem for me, and I quite like sport. and I very much like you being funny.

Still haven’t come up with my “first” yet. I’ll go and update my TYSIC though to keep me occupied…

Things I’ve done for the first time this year include:
- Wiring a plug (had to do it at school even though most plugs are automatically wired nowadays. Still, can’t hurt to learn.)
- Playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata on the piano (I can’t read music so I consider this a great achievement.)
- Making a quiche
- Almost dying
- Being an official ‘Young Carer’ for my brother
- Going on an aeroplane on my own
- Considered doing a bit more exercise (never got any further than considering it)
Hmm that’s quite a few things isn’t it. Maybe a few too many. Oops. Sorry.
