I would walk 2000 miles: iPod latest

Every time you forget that, as part of this blog, an iPod is winging its way around the country from reader to reader, another update pops up. This latest one has been written by Rachel, one of the core members of the team who have taken charge of organising this lunatic project since it was launched back in March. Here’s the latest news what is now one of the best-travelled, and certainly most sociable, iPods in existence…

Hello all. This is Rachel (aka Pandora) from the MP3 Conveyancing Team.

Our little iPod friend has now travelled almost 2000 miles (1944 miles to be exact). Google tells me that, in honour of Mark’s Australian visit, this is a mere 100 miles shy of driving from Perth to Adelaide, then on to
Melbourne: a ridiculously long way!

So, the last update left you all on a bit of a cliffhanger. The Package was about to head up to Edinburgh in Kirsty’s capable hands. The planning for the Fringe began several months ago, with mass emails being sent to identify potential handover candidates. A few key people were highlighted, and it was down to my colleague Misha to make sure it went smoothly.

To cut a long story short – it went very smoothly! During its time in Edinburgh, the iPod met Corey, Lora, Terry, Steph, Zoe, Vicky, Rachel, Shell, Jorik (the elusive Dutchman) and Tiernan Douieb, the comedian. Meetings were held in flats, venues, queues, cafes and even in Waterstones during Mark’s book launch. More details, including song choices and photos can be found on Misha’s blog.
Once Misha and The Package returned from Edinburgh, she attempted to make some handovers with other Coventry folk. However, both seem to have fallen off the radar. Deanlove and Dani, if you happen to be reading this and are still interested in participating, leave a comment or send us a quick email (mp3challenge@live.co.uk), and we might be able to fit you in at a later date.

It was then my turn to meet the iPod. I drove over to Coventry with my twin sister Helen, and, after several laps of the ring road, managed to meet up with Misha, and have lunch. We spent a good few hours discussing Edinburgh, 24hr shows and other Watsonian business, then had excellent cake.

Since taking possession of The Package I have introduced it to the lovely Alex Horne and made a trip over to Northampton to meet up with Patrick. The latter involved a very complicated moment of trying to explain to Patrick’s IT teacher/my athletics coach how we knew each other, and why we were sitting on a park bench with a laptop. The simplest answer? ‘It’s a cult thing’.

I’ve also added on all the songs that have been emailed to us from non-chain participants. If anyone else would like to contribute a song, then send us an email to address already mentioned. I’ve also updated both the Google map, give or take a few photos, and the Spotify playlist, so everyone can keep track of what songs have been added and where The Package has been.

Future plans now revolve around a trip to Birmingham for a handover before Mark’s gig, and a journey up north. Watsonians of Nottingham, Derby and Doncaster et al – keep an eye on your email inboxes!

That is one good looking list of songs, Anna is in for a treat!

I’m Dani who ‘fell off the radar’. I didn’t receive an email or anything but have been in london for the last few months anyway so wouldn’t have been in Coventry. x

    “It’s a cult thing”

    Ahahah, good times.

@Hannah (and any other non-Spotify types)

I’ve made a list here – https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=18qXnRsf-Pace0M060_lkrQGY446vjkxJvweNxWN2W1A – of all the songs that have been added so far. It includes a few songs that weren’t available on Spotify.

If you have added a song and its not on the list, then tweet me or email us, I’ve probably missed a couple out, despite my best efforts.
    Ta!

I had in fact forgotten about the ipod. I saw it briefly when I was in Edinburgh (I deciphered Tiernan’s writing for Misha after his show) and I meant to add a song, but I never managed it. Maybe I’ll be able to in December; otherwise I’ll try to send in a song.

    This is amazing!

Oh how cheerful the little ipod makes me! If anyone would like to get Spotify in order to listen to the playlist – and it’s really very good – I have invites still to be used.

    xx

Is there any chance the playlist could be put up in another place apart from Spotify? Even just a text list: Spotify isn’t available in Australia. I’d love to contribute a song, but obviously don’t want to send in something that’s already been done. : )

Ahhh the ipod. Those Edinburgh handovers were interesting.

Oooh, I thought we were nearly finished, it’s good that it’s still going. Damn, I’m going to have to get Spotify now.

Excellent, really glad that things are moving with this project. Can’t wait until it gets down to this side of the country! :)

Oooh, I was wondering what was going on with the iPod. It has certainly been busy and well done to the organisers. I’m up north, so hopefully it will get to me soon.

I’m really trying not to look at any mentions of song choices, so I have a surprise when it arrives. It’s difficult though.
    Once again, thank you everyone!
