Breasts!
Not really. But I was struggling for a title today and it’s always good to boost traffic to the site.
A young man called Jack wrote, under yesterday’s blog: ‘Hi Mark. I’m 16 on the 20th and I am interested in knowing who the youngest Watsonian is- if you know?’
I don’t know, but we can work it out. Send me your claims of youthfulness. I’m pretty sure there are regular readers under the age of 15. At the other end of the scale, I know there are a couple of people over 45 but it would be nice to think there are a few still older than that, because after all 45 is the new 25, which means those people are younger than me. Except I’m 30 which is the new 10. So I’m 10. Phew. Anyway, we’ll find for you, Jack.
Someone else left a comment asking (a) whether I’d be doing a book signing in Newcastle – the answer’s probably, yes – and admitting she had booked tickets so long ago she’d almost forgotten she did it, and wasn’t sure where the tickets now were. Let this be a lesson. DON’T FORGET, IF YOU HAVE BOOKED TO COME TO THE TOUR, TO ACTUALLY COME. I’d be ever so disappointed if I turned up at a place where we’d sold, say, 400 tickets but then it turned out all of them had forgotten, and were at home having their tea and watching The Inbetweeners.
I have finished my events in Melbourne and am now heading for Sydney for a couple of days. If you live in Australia you will almost definitely hear me do an interview on the radio in the next 48 hours. Even if you don’t listen to the radio. I’ll get in your brain somehow.
It’s bedtime for me, once more. An interesting question raised by last week’s Blogwatch phenomenon, and then the calm few days that followed, is whether some people would actually prefer it if the blog arrived between 11pm and midnight more often. I mean, this entry has been nothing much to get excited about. But if I’d posted it at 11.49 or something, it would have got a lot more pulses racing. Still, as I’ve said before, I’ve never yet deliberately kept you hanging like that.
And I’m not this time, either. I saw Inception tonight. I sure hope nobody infiltrates MY dreams and steals information from me and we are all plunged into a physical landscape created by my subconscious. I’d wake up even more tired than before.

Posted by Rachael on September 30, 2010
I saw inception a couple of days after I had had a dream where Leonardo DiCaprio saved me from violent thugs and gave me a present. So part of me thinks it was all true and he made me dream that.

Ok I feel I should add my data. I’m 17.
That’s all.
Posted by cymruangel on September 29, 2010
Finally managed to catch up on all the blogs I missed whilst in the US. So I should say that I’m 26, soon to be 27 (the great thing about birthdays in the autumn is that you have something to look forward to even if the weather’s crap!).
Posted by Craig on September 28, 2010
I believe i’m the first 24 year old?
Posted by Deanna on September 25, 2010
i’m 27 and i read this blog by reader, so i don’t often comment. i’m also in NZ, so the blogs arrive at strange and unusual times anyway…
Posted by JoC on September 23, 2010
I’ve got to be part of any graphing going on! I’m 27 years old.
Posted by SamJJ on September 23, 2010
Just getting round to this… Will be 31 on 18 October. That feels much older than 30. Think it’s because I’ll have to check the 31-40 box

One more for the stats: 18.
Posted by Big Rich on September 23, 2010
I suppose I should get in on the act then, I’m 33 and currently reading this in Wanaka, New Zealand. Although I’m a born and bred Londoner…….

Not many of us in the middle – I’m 35 (and still not grown up)
Posted by Megan on September 22, 2010
In the interests of keeping a more accurate census, I’m 33.
Posted by Deborah Fern on September 22, 2010
As promised – I’m 36. That should fill out the middle of the graph by one more
Posted by SarahV on September 22, 2010
Sorry should have been 24, by dog jumped up and hit the enter key

Posted by glamlovinkitty on September 22, 2010
A young 39 here. I’m happy for 40ish to be the new 25. I’m still doing a good many of the things I did when I was 25, only now I have a bit more money to do them..!
Posted by Claire on September 22, 2010
I’m 22 years old!
Posted by Melanie on September 22, 2010
Also 22!
Posted by Claire on September 22, 2010
For the stats, 22.
Posted by Adele on September 22, 2010
Just to keep the stats current, I’m 31 and suddenly feeling hideously old compared to the whipper snappers on here. My age does, however, allow me to call people whipper snappers which is fun now that I’m an old person.
Posted by DiB (Sue) on September 22, 2010
For the stats… I’m 45, which according to your blog post is the new 25. Sounds about right to me.
Posted by elin on September 22, 2010
Just because I like statistics, I am 28 years old, from Sweden, living in Norway. Not very exciting… but then neither am I. I’m quite happy anyway.
Posted by Cat on September 22, 2010
19 for the stats I spose. and mum is 52!
you should probably add sam now mark. he’s only 18 as we were discussing before (yeah I’m a cradle snatcher)
Posted by Jorik on September 22, 2010
Am 22, which is the new 46.
Posted by Alex on September 21, 2010
21. For the stats.
Posted by Anna on September 21, 2010
If I’d known there were going to be graphs, I’d have mentioned my age- I’m 29. It scares me slightly that there’s at least one person reading this blog who was born the year I left school.
Posted by MusicalLottie on September 21, 2010
One more stat: 21, from (boring old) England.
Posted by Rosie on September 21, 2010
Hi Mr Watson. I don’t usually comment but I thought I’d add to your stats with my info of being age 16 from Australia.
Also I would please like to know why you didn’t do preview shows at the Melbourne Fringe if you have a show ready for touring. Hmm?
That sounds a bit accusatory, but it should be read with a supportive tone.
Posted by Heather Jones on September 21, 2010
Just to add to the stats: I’m 47, so at the ‘considerably older than Mark’ end of the spectrum (but not quite old enough to be his mum….although come to think of it, if I’d had a baby at age 17….EEK! I AM old enough to be Mark’s mum!!)
Posted by Atri on September 21, 2010
24 from Indonesia! Any other Indonesians here??
By the way Mark, you seem to visit Australia alot, any chance of visiting Indonesia? You don’t even have to do a show
Posted by Anna Lowman on September 21, 2010
Nice work, Mum! x
Posted by Tibbs on September 21, 2010
Well, based on the data from this post, the blog’s readerships ranges in age from 14 to 70, a span of 56 years with a mean of 26.27 repeating, a median of 20, and modes of 16 and 18 (it’s been a while since I’ve taken any sort of math course, but I think I did those right). I’ve also done up a few charts and graphs:
Bar graph by decade: http://tiny.cc/graphone
Pie chart by decade: http://tiny.cc/graphtwo
Bar graph of individual ages: http://tiny.cc/graphthree
As you can see, teens make up nearly half of the readership-that-commented-on-this-post, my fellow twentysomethings scrapped a narrow victory over the quinquagenarians for second place, and the 60-69 age range is sadly underrepresented.
Posted by Nat on September 20, 2010
16 and living in Belgium^^
Posted by Lesley Lowman on September 20, 2010
As my lovely daughter is claiming second place for me in the oldest reader debate,I thought I’d better pitch in with a comment.(Whisper it) I’m 58.I do read regularly, but have never commented before,so this is a first!
Posted by Anna Lowman on September 20, 2010
Sorry Dave B, mum just beats you to second. Thought to be fair, you’ve actually commented
Posted by Katie on September 20, 2010
I’m in with the younger spectrum, I’m 16 as well. Plus I have the added bonus of taking my mum’s name of Watson if i want to!
Posted by Carl on September 20, 2010
Be nice to know if there’s any namesake watsonians, ie, 2 John Smiths… Or in fact is there a Mark Watson Watsonian?
Posted by Ben Draper on September 20, 2010
Ah, nice to see you adopted my marketing strategy, Mark!
Posted by Madeleine on September 20, 2010
I’m yet to here you on the radio or the T.V anywhere here yet (I thought you might be on Good News Week tonight, but it’s good you’re not because Criminal Minds is on. Have you watched that show? Terrifying), which to me seems like this is just some elaborate hoax. Or you want people to think you’re in Australia… Do you owe someone money Mark? We’re all here for you.
HOW AMAZING WAS INCEPTION? Didn’t you want to kiss/punch in the face Christopher Nolan at that ending? Wish I had the first comment, would have asked you to analyse it AT LENGTH (unless you didn’t like it, in which case I don’t care to hear from you).
Hope the interviews go excellently (though from your twitter feed… on behalf of Australia I’m sorry) aand you’re enjoying all your new pants!
Posted by Dave B on September 20, 2010
I’m 54.
Quite a tense fight for second place isn’t it?
And I’ll be 55 in 10 days, so feeling good about holding off my challengers.
Posted by amycool on September 20, 2010
Occasionally I think, “Have I missed Mark’s show and forgotten to go?”, realise that it’s not until October, then think, “Where are the tickets?!”.
It’s all okay though.
And for any graphs that may be being created, I’m 25 years and 8 months old. Still a while to go until my TKday.
Posted by Laura on September 20, 2010
Im 31 on the 21st. That sounds awful to me.
Inception is cracking, and who would have thought the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun would have turned out so sexy? I’m sure there are plenty of people reading this who have no idea what 3rd Rock from the Sun actually is. Oh well, the joys of being older than almost everyone on here…
Posted by Someone on September 20, 2010
Haha Suzanne!
I’m 21… Pretty dull age.
Also you’re/Mark’s on I-Player’s Rhod Gilbert’s Barrel of Laughs or whatever it’s called atm (radio show) if anyone… wondered. Very good too, of course.
I can do without the blogwatch tension really, but as I said, dull I am.
Posted by Nuala on September 20, 2010
39! Oh and I just ordered ‘Eleven’. Will be bringing it with me to Bristol!
Posted by Georgie on September 20, 2010
Was on the triple J website this morning listening to Sammy J sing a few dittys and noticed that you were going to be on the breakfast show on Wednesday? What kind of time should we expect you to ‘get into our brains’ as you put it?
x
Posted by Tibbs on September 20, 2010
I’m 26 and, nerd that I am, I’m very tempted to make some graphs of these figures. Might wait until there’s more data, though…
One of these days I”ll be home and online for a #blogwatch, but I’m not in any hurry. I like the not-stressful blogs just as well!
Posted by Ally on September 20, 2010
What radio station will you be on? I don’t generally listen to the radio but will try to find our when you’ll be on and listen then. Welcome to Sydney! Sorry about the weather. It was nice yesterday. And the day before. And the day before that. We’ve had good weather pretty much all week up until now. Any more news on the readings etc on Tuesday? I’m not sure how else to contact you about invites
There’s quite a range of ages! I’m in with the (possibly the largest) group of 18 years olds.
Posted by Juliet on September 20, 2010
It’s so nice to know how old everyone is haha I’m 17. What I think would be fun is to know if there is another Argentinean Watsonian!
Posted by A lot of Rach[a]els on September 19, 2010
19 (although I still keep saying 18 – it takes too long getting used to a new age) so I’m neither the youngest or the oldest.
I’m pretty sure I have tickets for Reading. But I accidently deleted my e-mails so don’t have the confirmation and now doubting myself for booking them. Still have 5 months-ish to remember though.
Posted by Suzanne on September 19, 2010
Anyone beat 70??? And Mark knows that’s true!!!
Josh, I think I’ve just shifted the median or mode … know what I mean???
Excuse me while I get back to my rocking chair, knitting and, of course, my hearing aid … and where did I put that damned cat???
Posted by Sarah on September 19, 2010
Oh, isn’t Inception fantastic?! I actually watched it in the cinema TWICE. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a film in the cinema more than once.
Also, I’m coming to see you in Reading in February and am really looking forward to it! I shall be right in the middle of the third row from the front – how exciting. And I know exactly where my tickets are
Oh, and I’m 20, so possibly a contender for the most average aged Watsonian.
Posted by Beth (Bloomability) on September 19, 2010
Woah, I thought I would have been beaten at this point. Is there not a single 13 year old Watsonian out there?
Posted by Tom Beasley on September 19, 2010
I’m 16, so I’m just at the young end of your age spectrum.
Also, for some reason, the “watching The Inbetweeners” bit of this blog made me laugh rather loudly. xD
Posted by LisaBrunders on September 19, 2010
I’m 52, and I’m glad not to be the oldest.
I don’t comment often but I’m still here.
Posted by Anna Lowman on September 19, 2010
My mum reads regularly – I won’t say her age cos I’m nice, but she is “winning” so far. And is well cool.
Posted by Julie on September 19, 2010
51. Relieved to know I’m not the oldest! Coming to see you in February in Reading and I know exactly where my tickets are
Posted by Kate B on September 19, 2010
I turned 15 on June 9th. So I’m one of the youngest, but by the time the TYSIC is over I’ll be 24! Scary thought! I did go to one of your Edinburgh shows this summer though Mark, even though to get in you’re meant to be 16. Ah well, no one noticed
Have fun in Sydney! I’m very jealous!
Posted by Irwin on September 19, 2010
I’m 21, but several people have told me I have to soul of a 65 year old.
Tragically I also have the bladder problems and the incessant need to nap of a 65 year old…
I was all set to buy a ticket to see you in Winchester, but then you cancelled the next day and broke my heart…
Posted by louisel on September 19, 2010
I’m 16, but for once I’m not the youngest!
I’m almost certain I put the tickets in my envelope of important stuff, but I’ve sort of lost the envelope. I think it might have fallen behind the piano, or I might have accidentally recycled it last week … I hope it’s the first one, otherwise I’ll have to tell my mates that we’re not going to see you, Tim Minchin and The Wombats anymore :S
Ohh, and the title and the first sentence made me choke on my drink with laughter
Posted by Katie on September 19, 2010
I’m 18 and a little bit. So not the youngest by a long shot, it would appear.
(Also, if you do a signing in Glasgow, I will force my friend Lyndsey to buy a book and you can write all over it. By “force”, I mean “ask politely”, obviously. Lyndsey’s bloody lovely. She’d probably do it anyway.)
Posted by Sophie on September 19, 2010
Sorry for the ridiculous grammar in the first sentence, it’s been a long day.
Posted by Sophie on September 19, 2010
I was 15 in June. I’m not the younger by a few months. Still, one of the younger ones.
It’s scary however to think that kids born in 2000 will be 10, it makes me feel old.
Posted by Josh on September 19, 2010
I would like to put myself up for the most average aged Watsonian, be that mean, median or mode,
I am 18 and 28 days.
Posted by Phill on September 19, 2010
By the way, meant to say I’m 27. Which means I’m definitely not the youngest or the oldest, but somewhere in the middle. Just thought it might be interesting if you wanted to build up a kind of demographic of Watsonians though… I would be quite interested, but then I am geeky like that.
Posted by Phill on September 19, 2010
I’ve not seen Inception. Thanks for ruining it for me
… just kidding. I’ve heard it’s good but a bit trippy, not sure whether it’s really my cup of tea!
Posted by Catherine on September 19, 2010
53. 54 soonly. Time for a nap.
Posted by Lydia on September 19, 2010
I’m seventeen, so not the youngest by a couple of years.
I have to pick up my tickets on the night, so I don’t have to worry about losing them. I did it that way because I thought I would save money, but they still charge extra even though they aren’t using postage. I’m trying to focus on the at least I won’t lose them part.
Posted by Bloomability on September 19, 2010
I’m 14 at the moment but am turning 15 on the 6th Oct though. I still seem to be the youngest as of yet.
Posted by Dawn on September 19, 2010
I am aged 51 and am proud to be a “Watsonian!!
Posted by Anji on September 19, 2010
I booked my tickets for Torquay aaages ago, for Feb 2011, and have clipped them to the back of the calender as I figured I wouldn’t not be able to see them, and so far in 27 years of living I haven’t yet lost a calender. So you had better all hope that doesn’t happen this year!
On a note from another blog, I shall bring my copy of Eleven to Torquay and get Mark to put a squiggle in it for me. I’ll look forward to that.
Happy birthday Meg’s mum!
Posted by Kathryn on September 19, 2010
I find that I miss the sense of excitement and tension the night after a Blogwatch, but if they were more frequent it might be too much to bear.
It is a strange thought that at 19 I am no longer anywhere close to being the youngest.
I thought I lost my ticket the other day. As long as I don’t leave it at home when I go to university it will be fine.
Posted by Misha on September 19, 2010
I think for once it’s not me at 18, although it usually is.
I have a ticket booked for Cov, just need to book my travel, and planning to come to Cardiff too as a pick me up, (although it’s a moot point since I really need said pick me up now, and the show isn’t til november, any excuse)
I think I find calm days less stressful, but the panic days are sometimes fun.
Posted by Meg on September 19, 2010
I’ve been 15 for about a month but there are probably people younger than me. My mum, who reads the blog every day but never comments, has turned 46 TODAY (Happy Birthday Mum!) so we are at completely opposite ends of the scale.
