The big sleep
Although this will be a very brief entry, I can’t neglect to thank the several people who have already donated to the charity I’m hoping to run 13 miles for, following yesterday’s blog. With it being my sisters’ charity, it is a big thing for me. Thank you!
Now, I’ve often used this blog to complain of fatigue since KW was born, but tonight I am at a new level. Doing a show in a big room every night, raising a rather emotional tiny boy, and running regular 10ks all in parallel has left me feeling slightly worse than Hercules midway through his labours (say three down, but still a really tough couple to go).
I have been given the night off by my wife and parenting-boss Emily EVEN THOUGH SHE IS EQUALLY OR MORE TIRED and am off to a hotel where I shall sleep like a bastard. A bastard that’s just been chloroformed.
If you follow Emily on Twitter please rain praise upon her. She is a marvel.
There is another meaning to the title of this blog, which gives away the subject of tomorrow’s. If you like, you can have fun guessing it. Goodnight. Please comment in whispers so as not to wake Kit up.

Even my Mum pointed out her amazement at how you’re managing to do all the stuff you’re doing (ie. raising a baby, running a half marathon, doing a show every night). And my Mum doesn’t shower praise on people very often at all.
(I’m sort of doing a catch up on your blogs. I read them all while I was in Edinburgh but didn’t comment on any of them. I am doing so now. Sorry about this.)

I hope you got a lovely night’s sleep Mark and feel refreshed. Emily deserves praise indeed, as do you.
I’m returning to Ed tomorrow so in state of chaos at the moment with half dyed hair, half packed bag and half eaten dinner…
I will however be donating towards your run very soon. A 10K run on top of everything else!
You don’t do things by halves Mr and Mrs Watson!

We are holding a fashion show at Gatecrasher in Birmingham on Oct 9th for the Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent Would it be possible for you to attend and perform. We want to raise as much money as we can and your presence will help greatly.
Many thanks

I hope you feel better after you’ve slept. I liked the Yahoo blog yesterday, it was good.

Do a sponsered run, followed by a sponsered buffet ending with a sponsered sleep. You could so a sponsered sleep in aid of insomniacs and im allowed to say that as one. but that could be seen as taking the mic. hmmmm. i will think about this. happy sleeping

Mark
I was at your show on Sunday night past and it was superb. It raised the question in my mind as to whether comedy is a state of mind or whether its just something that you do. the reason i ask is because when i’m tired i’m a right miserable bastard. I think doing shows every night, running 10ks regulalry and bringing up a child is well slightly remarkable. I have ran two full marathons and i know the dedication required. So then i think to myself, are comedians super evolved human beings or just nuts?
Anyhow, one last thing, something resonated in your show about trying to influence peoples lives. The easiest thing to do in life is to ignore other people and become selfish (polticians for example) but to have the ability to change lives is really quite an amazing skill. From now on i’m going to be much more helpful and caring etc as bringing positive thoughts into the world will pay you rewards in the end. I was really very much moved by what you had to say the other night. That said it was also bloody funny but that i guess is the gift of a comedian in that you influence people all the time without ever realising it. I must make a donation for your run. Masses of respect you for doing that. I know how tough it is to train let alone with all the work and family commitments.
Thank you for the great show you put on and best of luck with the run
Matt

Hope you feel better after the sleep.
Sorry to hijack your blog but since I know the people that read this are all lovely and intelligent people, how about having a look at this? Its a blog I made about people who are wrongfully imprisoned around the world:
http://spotlightinjustice.wordpress.com/
It’s abit of a work-in-progress but if it seems to have peaked at a total of 3 visitors in the last week and I am slowly losing the will. Thanks.

The Big Sleep is also a song by Streetlight Manifesto, I hope/doubt its about that!

Death or film noir?
(Sweet dreams! In the nice, not-sinisterly-said-horror-movie way.)

Shhh. Night, night.

Er, is the next blog about death? The big sleep was always death in my house. But then I grew up in Chicago in the 1920s…
Good luck with the run though; I felt great when I could run a mile and still have energy… so fair play.
I’ve just seen the alternative tent at Reading. Stephen K Amos is “headlining”: does that mean he’ll clash with Guns and Roses…?

Sleep tight, Mark.
I know work is the last thing on your mind, but a quick note: My lovely girlfriend Beth is the new Marketing/Events lady at the Bournemouth O2. They don’t do enough comedy and they need a big name to attract the students. Do you know of anyone?… Of course, I jest. But she would love to have you on board!
End of work talk.

Have a good sleep!
I have no idea what the title refers to. I shall find out tomorrow, no doubt.

In our house, the Big Sleep is the night between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My mum calls it that because she says it feels like the longest sleep of the year.
(It’s also a Bat for Lashes song. Although, I doubt you’ll write a blog about that.)
Have a lovely sleep, Mark. You’ve earned it.

Praise to Emily and here’s hoping Kit sleeps well too! x

Have a lovely long sleep, Mr W! Sleep deprivation is, after all, a well-known form of torture, albeit unwittingly inflicted by the mini-watson in this case.
Oh, by the way, (although I think I already tweeted this to you yesterday) I just bought another copy of Eleven on Amazon to give to a friend for her birthday. I also plan to give several copies of the book as Xmas presents to various family members.
No idea what tomorrow’s blog is going to be about, I’m afraid.

I’m not sure what the title could mean, as like Kate W I refuse to think about Raymond Chandler’s interpretation of ‘The Big Sleep’. I’m off to go and sponsor you for this run. Assuming I still have money in my bank account.
Posted by Kate B on August 23, 2010
A sponsored sleep? That’d be good but perhaps wouldn’t raise a lot of money… Or last very long with a baby son.
Hope you have a good nights rest, you deserve it!

Sleep well tired man. You deserve a rest.

*whispers* You’re about to turn into Raymond Chandler? Other than playing detective in some form, I actually can’t guess what that title means (there’s an obvious – fatal – interpretation, but I refuse to guess that).
Have a wonderful, deep sleep. I’ve been missing the blog for the last week, so am enjoying catching up with it tonight.
*goes off the praise Emily and sponsor la famille Watson*
