Howes steps in
Today was one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever known in Edinburgh. Normally, this middle weekend is plagued by merciless rain and all the fourteen million people who’ve come up specially end up getting wet and miserable, buying yellow ponchos with SCOTLAND on, and crowding into cafes to pay well over the odds for a cup of tea.
Oh hi! This is Emily, Mark’s wife. I have sent Mark to bounce the baby, who is overtired, up and down on his knee until he nods off (the baby, not Mark, ha ha, etc etc). (I learned about that joke from Adrian Mole). We have to go out and see Ed Aczel so Mark has minus time to actually complete the blog. We should have left recently.
Anyway, I said I’d complete the blog. I am very interested in why he feels the need to create near-impossible tasks for himself to complete, as if testing his stamina makes him feel more alive. He definitely derives a strange sort of self-worth from being able to complete deadlines that push him to the absolute limit. It’s an interesting human characteristic – everybody likes a bit of adrenalin – but sometimes he takes it to an almost manic degree. Can’t think of any examples. Oh, hang on THE TWENTY FOUR HOUR SHOW. Followed by THE THIRTY SIX HOUR SHOW.
Anyway, that’s just my thought for the day while guest-writing the blog. We’re off to Ed Aczel. I might have spelt it wrong.
Goodnight.

Ooh, very lovely guest blog, Emily! I’ve just recently started following you on twitter, much to my amusement. And as someone who’s never experienced one of the long shows (*sad face*), the mere idea of them is enough to boggle my mind! Hope you have another chance to guest blog soon!

Hello Mark. I was the tall older gentleman on your right last week in Edinburgh when you were giving forth from the scaffolding outside the Portrait Gallery.
Thank you for the time in your presence. You are a very amusing and clever fellow. I know you are clever because I have recently read Bullet Points; [by no means an obvious plot line for a seemingly whimsical character such as yourself,] and I know you are amusing because you make me laugh very much. I shall endeavour to read everything you write now, and indeed have begun to wade through ‘Crap’. Good, but not so good as my previous read.
I wish you all the very best of success, and forsee little chance of failure.
M Colgan

I like this blog. I like it a lot. The blog entry specifically, I mean, not the blog in general. But I do like the blog in general a lot, too.
I second what many other people are saying about having you do more guest blogs. Please.

It is interesting to see how much Mark can possibly balance isn’t it? Both admirable and crazy.
I would like to repeat everyone else’s sentiments in saying that I enjoyed Emily’s blog and she should do it again. Also, thanks for putting up with us all!

Glad to hear that Kit is doing well! And I’d like to second (or third? or something) other people’s comments that we apologize for encouraging Mark to continue this wonderful, but insane, blog!
We really do appreciate it!

Evenin’ Howes, I agree completely with everyone else – it’d be lovely to have you guesting on here again. Maybe you could have a regular “Kit’s Progress” column or something – although that’s just as much MW’s job. You could keep us all posted on your own latest projects being a highly talented director and comedienne. Plus you must have some more tweet chats with MW too – that Twitter exchange a couple of months ago about the milk was a classic.

Bang up job, Emily. Really enjoyed you as guest blogger. I also like your radio show.
I think you and Mark make a great team (marriage and comedy). I love reading your twitters. My family (of the ones who know of my interest in the Watsons) think I’m mental for following your family, but it beats my family all to pieces. Oh hell, my whole family thinks I’m mental. I think maybe it’s them
Good night, Watsons.

Hi Emily,
Well done on the guest blog. Must admit I’m a bit fascinated to hear from you on this topic and if you do guest blog again I wouldn’t mind you expanding on the theme a bit.
Oy. Sorry sometimes I forget that I’m not a schoolteacher anymore.

Ooooops, that didn’t quite sound as bright and breezy when read as it did in my head…
I mean to say that I know you contribute loads to keeping this going anyway, but, y’know, for writing and stuff..
Feel rather daft now.
Sorry.

MrsEmilyWH! I really enjoy your tweets and am definitely pleased that you’ve stepped in to write the blog. (I had a feeling that it was only a matter of time
).
And yeah, what Rachel/Pandora said. (In reference to the PS specifically: Especially as you included an Adrian Mole reference almost right off the bat.)

Hi Emily!
I feel I should apologise on behalf of Watsonians everywhere for the amount we encourage Mark in this daily blog. It must cause a lot of stress, especially with the midnight deadline! Just like the marathon shows, its a bit ridiculous, but all quite good fun, and we do all really appreciate it. Thank you for putting up with him/us.
I’m so happy to hear that Kit’s out of hospital and doing better. At least now you can start properly enjoying the Fringe! x
P.S It’d be really good to see you pop up as a guest blogger again soon.
