Houdini

I am signing books. My show is just about over. I have not blogged. This is frightening. I am once again going to make a Houdini-like escape provided that this app works. But it has failed in the past as we all know. Jesus. This had better work. I hope nobody has had a heart attack.

I brought my girlfriend to your show on Sunday (8th). She’s not a huge comedy fan and would rather see shows with cellos, or about horses, preferably both, but I insisted on packing as much comedy into this weekend as possible and your show was the finale.
I took her to see Tim Minchin when we’d just started going out, a little nerve-wracking having really built him up, but she loved it and has since placed an alarming faith in my taste. I took her to see Brendan Burns. Red faces all-round, but another success.
With the bar set this high though, I’ve only really kept things ticking over with the occasional open mic and shows down in London. A triumphant return to Edinburgh after a year away though – the perfect way to prove my, and the comedy circuit’s worth!
But our whirlwind run around Edinburgh’s streets wasn’t going that well. A few giggles here, a clever comedy song there, we did get picked on and she had to hold a disco ball for ten minutes, but mostly polite smiles and feeling of mine and Edinburgh’s reputation slowly ebbing.
But then an old church, an old parliament, built into a hill so the rafters take the footsteps of passers-by above… Three seconds in I relaxed. When you ran after the couple who left early on she nearly wet herself. During the remainder you nimbly vaulted the aforementioned bar. Faith fully restored.
Thanks and hope you have a great run.
(And ask the tech guys how to get onto the roof at Assembly Hall, well worth it)

I’m glad i’m not the only one that was fast asleep and none the wiser! I hope the book signing was good (but not quite as good as the one when you got to meet me obviously!)

If only everyone was in bed by 10.30pm every night like me, you could just post it any time before 7am and we’d be none the wiser. I feel like none the wiser should be one word somehow, like nevertheless, but I don’t think it is.
I hope the book signing went splendidly. It feels like forever since I read your book. When is it going to be made into a Sunday evening drama?

I wish I could go and see your show at the Ed Fest, but I’ll just have to wait until you come to Australia. Though one of my aims is to get to a Festival in the next couple of years. Hopefully.

I miss out on the tension by being a lightweight and normally being asleep before the deadline. I check the next morning while having breakfast – smile a little at what it must have been like waiting and feel happy there is this whole other world going on while I sleep.

This will he/won’t he blogging is very exciting. I’ve not been on the edge of my seat at midnight like some watsonians, but still. Thrilling.

Also, is there no way you can make it so the time the blog goes up is published along with the date? So we can see how close you came exactly? – Not a geeky question at all. Nope.

I just cannot stand the tension if I’m honest. Taken to checking blog between 1am-11pm. Cop-out I know but my heart is dodgy, and this blog quest so hazardous. And anyway, I trust you, so no pressure. In fact can’t imagine the pressure this blog has/will weigh on you. You crazy, lovely man.

Bloody hell. This was so tense that it’s taken me an hour and a half to calm my nerves before leaving a comment! Well done, plucky Watson. Hope all’s well in Edinburgh xx

Ahhh the tension! It was nerve wracking in the courtyard. This blog has reminded me I’ve not yet found an appropeiate juncture to ask if you’d consider signing my book. Sleep firs.t.

oh also, if you ever feel the need, do blog during your show. I know many of us would not mind at all.

It seeming less and less likely that we’re all going to survive ten years of blogs when people are threatening heart-attacks after just a few months…
Posted by Katie on August 9, 2010
…nope, I think we’re ok. Pretty sure we’re all ok. x

Not quite heart attacks, but you’re keeping us on our toes! Good to see you’ve pulled it out of the hat again Mark, hope the shows and signings are going wonderfully.

Phew! I was getting very worried about you there.

Not a heart attack, but was on the edge of my seat, particularly because for the last 3 minutes the page wouldn’t refresh.
All is well now.

Update – Away in a Manger was sung by myself, Simone, Rachel and Helen.
New Scottish Time all the way!

Well done!
we’ve been debating ways you could get out of it if you didn’t make it. Don’t forget New Scottish Time and of course Edinburgh day ends at 6am!
Hope your show went well tonight and people are enjoying getting their hands on your book

I came *this close* Watson.
*This close*.
But still.
YAY! THE PERFECT RECORD IS IN TACT. HURRAH!

From what I have seen on Twitter, there were lots of people holding their breath…
However, the fact that you are still signing books is a great reason to miss a blog. Which you didn’t. So it’s all good! x

No heart attacks, just mild panic. We were debating whether you should be allowed to use New Scottish Time, to give yourself an extra 20 minutes.
We’re fully prepared to sing carols very loudly to make it work….
