Green
Well, we made it up to Scotland. Even more pleasingly, all the way to the actual flat we’re staying in. With a baby and around 186 suitcases, this is a fair achievement, I almost feel I deserve a good review straight off the bat. As the wife recorded on Twitter, our companions in the next seats were a couple, middle aged, who didn’t really say anything to each other for the whole five hours. Around Berwick, the man did mutter ‘sun on the beach, nice’, but his wife didn’t venture a reply. They didn’t really even speak when they got out to go to the toilet/buffet; they just sort of conjured themselves past in silence. This would have made it all the worse if Kit had ‘kicked off’, but- with the help of his teddy Comforting Bear and a lot of discreet puppeteering by us- he got through it well.
Now we’re here. The sky over the Meadows is pinkish-blue and the Meadows themselves are a lovely healthy green. There are hopeful-looking drama students everywhere, green in a different sense; this is my
11th Fringe in a row and I almost feel like putting an arm round some of them.
My show doesn’t start till Thursday, so over the next couple of days I’ll try to give a flavour of this unique, bizarre event to all of you who aren’t here.
Then from August 9 or thereabouts, it will turn me steadily into a wreck and my blog will resemble a prisoner’s notes. This is all perfectly normal. Don’t panic. Stay tuned.

Blimey, you must have felt about 80 after carting all those cases around.

Baby Watson sounds like a dream! Glad you’re all up there safe and sound. I look forward to the Fringe blogs, I’ve never been so an insight would be great

Try to get to the Tempting Tattie on Jeffrey St if you get a chance. Herring did a lot to raise its profile last year, but when I was in a few weeks ago the guy said they were really struggling to make a profit.
Besides, their tatties are MASSIVE (The ‘medium’ is two spuds) and yummy. And cheap.

Them, not hem. Brain’s still on UK time and I’m typing on a phone. Not ideal.

Oh, the Meadows. Spent two months living on the edge of hem, but our flat’s windows faced the wrong way to see them. It’s where I saw my first cricket match too. Man, I miss Edinburgh.
Best of luck with your shows this year. The preview I saw was delightful, so I’m sure it’ll go well.

Woo, I got my ticket for the 10th, after my exam. I might have to think of a word for Watsons Words, and reward you with some sort of root vegetable if you say it. (although that might be weird) although my friend Laura is working at your venue, this year, Im just slightly jealous…

Over here in America, waiting to come home after 5 weeks here. So excited about seeing both of your shows.

Just this minute finished Eleven. Look forward to reading it again. Will post a proper review soon, but just wanted to check in and mention how much I enjoyed it, which was a lot.
I miss Edinburgh terribly, will try to come up for my little sister’s play and hopefully catch you, sammy j, camille o’sullivan and everything in the
spiegeltent in whatever brief time I get this year.

Glad the trip up was a pleasant one. Kit sounds like he was a star!

Looking forward to the updates and please remember to 1) enjoy yourself and 2) get enough sleep.
Right, I’m off to bake a cake for the window fitters who are coming tomorrow. My Mum always taught me to look after work men and they’ll do a good job in return – a principle that seems to work. I’m playing it safe with a Victoria sponge as I’m not sure what they’ll like

My grandparents are much the same, i’m fascinated by how they could easily not speak for an entire day other than to request the wine or the salt. Must be nice to be that relaxed around someone else.
I hope you have a nice few days rest before the mayhem kicks off, I don’t leave til Friday, so the next few days are exciting for me, and enjoying having my own bed and shower before the hostel. Hmm.

Welcome! Your face is plastered all over a pillar outside the museum which made me shout and point and go “I’m going to see him!!!”. Cue bemused looks from passersby.

I come to see your show on the first day! I’m going to sit in the front row deliberately and laugh really loudly. Are you going to do more writing stuff up as we all come in? Please do that. It was brilliant.

Have a great time and don’t worry we’ll try to keep you sane and still beating the drum of optimisim. It’s our duty.
One worded blogs will be accepted for the cause of keeping the record. As long as those words are as good as frisbee and the like.
