Testament to the day in verse
All I can really do today is sum up a few of the day’s events, but to provide at least a little interest, I shall do so in a series of rhyming couplets. At the end there are footnotes, a la Tim Key’s poems (or should that be ‘aux’ Tim Key’s poems, language fans?) explaining some of the claims made here.
I’ve just eaten grapes. And washed up some plates. [1]
We went to a fair. [2] The Minchins were there.
I hate Paris Hilton. I cannot eat Stilton. [3]
I went on Sky Sports. I wished I’d worn shorts. [4]
Gave the baby a bath. The word ‘beef’ makes him laugh.
Drank four cups of tea. Watched the football with Key.
Saw my mother-in-law. But it wasn’t a chore. [5]
Wrote a blog that’s in verse. Can the blog get much worse?
[1] Actually, stacked the dishwasher. The thinking man’s washing up.
[2] The Steam Fair in Priory Park. Vintage rides, etc.
[3] This sounds less topically relevant, but I’m annoyed that Hilton got to go to the World Cup (where she was arrested). And there was some Stilton at the picnic when we went to the fair. Or if not Stilton, some other stinky cheese. Not for me.
[4] That is, I wished I had shorts on later in the day when it got hot and I had to rush home for Germany v Argentina. I never wear them on account of my pale, skinny legs. I didn’t wish I had them on during the cricket show on Sky. I shouldn’t like to wear shorts on TV.
[5] We get on well.

People should blog in verse more often. This is great.

Mocked by Louise Rednap – I wouldn’t stand for that Mark!

This is a brilliant poem. I think you should write more of them!

From a language fan (or, at any rate one who managed to pass all her french exams with vast amounts of coffee):
I totally appreciate the ‘aux’. Just saying.

Saturday Kitchen on TV. Had a cup of tea.
Walked up Muswell Hill. The view was a thrill.
Visited Ally Pally Park. Heard several dogs bark.
Had pasta for lunch. Really more of a brunch.
Tidied the flat. Fed the neighbour’s cat.
Made sure the baby was well fed. Then put her to bed. [1]
Enjoyed an alfresco meal. Smiled at ‘Minge of Steel’!
Shared a bottle of wine. Now everything’s fine.

No, you’re right Helen. I did indeed mean Style.
That’s the kind of day i’ve had, I can’t spell anymore.

I liked this.
I thought you were really good on Stand Up For The Week, by the way. I wish it had been longer.

I liked that lots.
I think perhaps Misha meant rhyming style. But I’m very likely to be wrong.

This blog, it was ace,
And that you must face.
The rhymes made me smile
For more than a while.
Rhyming’s the best
And so I suggest
That everyone’s comments
Should rhyme on this …blog.

Very inventive, I don’t know where you keep finding all these ideas to keep us amused. But I’m glad that you do.
Thank you.

I read that through a few times getting very confused about the rhyming in the fifth line. Then I realised I was reading it as a Northerner, which is why ‘bath’ wasn’t rhyming with ‘laugh’
I read it in your accent and all was right again.

Your blog made me smile. With it’s rhyming smile.
But I won’t put the rest of this comment in verse, for the sake of all concerned. It’s been a very long day. Oh and if it makes you feel any better some girl pointed at my shorts and laughed. So I wished I hadn’t worn them.

Grapes are great
We played the game “sausages” with the word beef. It was hilarious but I guess you had to be there
