Happy Easter. I’ve had an excellent day. Bristol City clocked up a priceless win in the early hours of the Australian morning (thanks to finger-crossers) and we then woke to the strange news that a loon had disrupted the Boat Race as a protest against elitism. I’ve got some views on his performance, but they’ll have to wait. My Easter Sunday was a matter of having dinner with various estimable people including Simon Amstell, who is not easy to cater for as he’s a vegan and can pretty much only eat dust and goodwill. It was all pretty enjoyable. Easter may not be a big deal technically, what with the majority of people now not really believing in the whole redemption-of-mankind thing, and indeed the whole redemption-of-mankind thing not really standing up on theological grounds (because if God is omnipotent then he made humans to be imperfect in the first place, and needn’t have done, so then the whole sacrifice of his son is a bit of a formality, etc)… but you can’t deny, it’s a good idea for families to get together. Hope that’s what you’re doing today. In fact you shouldn’t really be online as this is one of the year’s few allocated rest days. So… hope you’re not reading this.
