The comeback

As advertised a long time ago, I am now officially blogging again. I have rested for a month, as I said I would do, avoiding all attempts at humour where possible, allowing my funniness to dip to levels so low that I would have fitted in quite well on . I helped myself to Christmas cheer. I visited Barbados without tweeting or otherwise advertising the fact and thereby opening up my house to visits from burglars or other ill-wishers, so maybe I’m learning about safe internet use. I avoided making new year’s resolutions, other than a couple of private ones. (At some point I’ll have to revisit the 31 I rashly drew up last year, but I hesitate to inspect the evidence.)

And now I am back. Tomorrow I will blog with actual content, as they say in web circles. Today is really just a confirmation of my return. It will also act as a test page to see whether anyone is still reading. I look forward to addressing my real or imaginary audience once more. Hello.

…oh, and on the subject of loyal readers, if anyone remembers any strands from the last two years which were left uncompleted – and there certainly are a few – do take this opportunity to remind me, as this seems a good moment to turn over a new leaf of blog coherence: a leaf which I expect to last at least until the end of January. Hang on, are there 31 days in January? Well, nearly the end, then.

Welcome back, Watson, it’s excellent to see you again. I’m thrilled to learn that you’re back with a bang and look forward to hearing all about your holiday exploits.

    Welcome back, Mark!

In your absence many things have happened. Last weekend there was a small Watsonian meetup in Birmingham, which I am told was all sorts of fun. Also, we had a go at plugging the gap filled by no Watson Blog with www.mwblogmas.wordpress.com, but that sort of failed. And I set up a twitter account to follow your blog, at @MWBlogWatch. Fun!

Hurrah! Am delighted that you’re back! And more importantly, I’m delighted that you appear to be well rested, my goodness man, you didn’t half work bleeding hard last year.

Don’t work as hard this year!

    xx

  6. issey says:

Now I have an excuse again for not doing work!

  7. Misha says:

Yay blog! Yay for resting Watsons.

Did you ever finish the toblerone thing? Also the dating profiles (although I would like to declare mine redundant) also, are we not due another set of topics for the Very Late Review?

    I have missed this.

  8. Alice says:

Hello! Your blog winterval ended on the same day as mine. In fact I can’t think of a better opportunity to watch your DVD, my Christmas present from my very thoughtful little sister.

  9. Abi says:

Yay! Glad to have you back. Been checking the blog during the winterval in case you changed your mind and returned early :)

  10. Ingrid says:

Yay! :D great to have you back! Hope you had a great christmas and new year and all that. (:

I remember there was that rather interesting predicting the future thing. I dont think that ever wrapped up. And also did you get your books in other languages out to the people? (sorry for being a little inarticulate, i just really cant think of a better way to describe it!)

Yay the blog is back. Glad you had a good Christmas Mark (and by extension everyone else).

I was going to mention the Very Late Review as well. It is one of my favourite blog things.

  13. Hooray! *imaginarily lights indoor firework in celebration (too cold for outdoor ones)*

Welcome back; glad to hear you’re well-rested. You certainly deserved a holiday so I hope it was perfectly relaxing and refreshing. Please don’t work too hard this year!

By the way, did you censor yourself with ” … allowing my funniness to dip to levels so low that I would have fitted in quite well on .”? Just curious.

I can’t remember much of what went on [here and in life generally] over the past two years – heck, I can’t even remember to check my phone so I don’t turn up to things that have been cancelled – so it’ll be interesting to see what topics are revived here in the comments :)

  14. Katy says:

Welcome back Mark, delighted to have you return! Glad you’ve had a good time off, we’ve missed you but you needed the break.

One of the outstanding things I can remember that no-one else has mentioned is the Best Mark Lookalike competition.

  15. Alex says:

Glad to have you back. Hope you’ve had a lovely break. I imagine it would be quite hard not to in Barbados.

  16. Suzanne aka Senior Watsonian says:

Welcome back, young man! Pleased you chilled out in the tropical heat …

Am raising a glass to you … stay well and happy and not TOO busy in 2012 …;)

Fireworks, party poppers and global celebrations …!!!

See you next month … x

  17. Emily says:

I’ve missed this place, hello again blog.

  18. I’VE MISSED YOU GRANDPA.

As, Patrick said earlier, we tried to fill in the gap, but it turns out to be surprisingly stressful to maintain a daily blog over the festive period. I think you did well to avoid it.

As for unfinished business (apart from that second sentence of your’s), I can think of VLR, as many have said, the toblerone thing and that thing about your suitcase (although the time for that’s probably gone).

I’m sure there’s many more, we’re remarkably fickle with ideas.

There’s Eurovision for one thing. Hah (a very bitter laugh).

  19. David (man proprosing) says:

Good to see the blog is back, the internet is a better place with a regular blog from Mark, and nice to see the familiar names of regular posters

  25. Knox says:

happy returning (well, happy for us mostly) – glad you got a proper rest! xxx

  26. Well thank goodness you’re back, have been making do with a substitute Watson by watching the Sherlock programme, it’s just not the same … x

    Welcome back Mark!!!

  30. Lydia says:

Yay, welcome back. Missed you and stuff :)

I’m not into new year’s resolutions either. Mainly because almost everyone I know is now dieting, and it’s irritating and depressing.

    I’m glad you’re all rested x

    Croeso nol! (Welcome back)

What a lovely month off it sounds like you had – very jealous of your Barbados trip. Here’s to much Watsonian wonderment in 2012. Assuming the Mayans are wrong and the world doesn’t end, that is.

  32. Andrew says:

“…allowing my funniness to dip to levels so low that I would have fitted in quite well on…”
    Mrs Brown’s Boys?
The Royal Bodyguard? (what WERE they thinking?)
    Anything featuring Leigh Francis?
    The England scorecard?

  33. Jennifer says:

    Welcome back!

  34. Rachy Crackner says:

bonjour Mr Watson, i’m at uni and i’m required to do a blog…WHAT THE F?! where do i start and why does anyone care what i have to say? i’m just a northerner living in London…nobody gives a shit…anyway i digress, i typed in “comedy blogs” to get some ideas and you’re one of my faves so gave you a click, can you ‘elp? p.s you walked past me at Paddington station and you’re taller than expected, congrats on the height!

    peace

  35. Rachael says:

Yay! It is very good to have you back, especially in a well rested state.
Since the last blog I completed one of my TYSICs (not the goats unfortunately) and had my hair cut off and donated it to Little Princess Trust so they can use it to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
As for forgotten business, I believe you/ we/ someone was going to arrange for someone ( I can’t remember who?!) to go on a narrow boat. I think it was in “mark’ll fix it”.

  36. Tibbs says:

Good to have you back. =)

  37. Heather Jones says:

Hi, Mark – I’m another Watsonian checking back in and confirming I’m up for onward daily blog-reading. Welcome back!

  38. Tom Beasley says:

Welcome back to the blogosphere Mark! Looking forward to reading your ramblings again.
