I’m in the Lake District. Tonight I played Penrith Leisure Centre. You can imagine what a leisure centre is like as a comedy venue: echoey and difficult and you may as well be emo band Funeral For A Friend grinding your way through some industrial rock. Luckily, the audience obliged with a lot of supportiveness. Tomorrow I go to Millom, which has been the venue about which people have most consistently asked either ‘where is that?’ or (if they know where it is) ‘are you sure you should go to Millom?’ If you know anything about Millom, or even know someone who has been there, or (far-fetched) have been there yourself or ARE THERE NOW, any information would be welcome. I’ve got it down as a frighteningly remote destination but maybe I’m being pessimistic: and, hey, last week I did a gig where the audience all arrived by torchlight because there were no street lights, and another one where they sold cakes in the interval as there was no bar. So it can’t be more remote than those, surely?
In other news I’ve unfortunately had some chest pains lately, and I’m probably going to have to postpone a couple of shows because I’ve been advised by doctors to not die. More details soon. If this does happen, I’ll reschedule the gigs for some time next year when I’m not ruefully rubbing my chest and wondering how things got this stressful.
